Duties Description Reporting to the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO), the Assistant Director is responsible for day-to-day oversight and management of the PMO’s portfolio of projects, overseeing PMO staff, performing information gathering and analysis, and coordinating closely with agency partners. The Assistant Director will assist with the implementation of strategies to achieve successful project outcomes on time and within budget. Duties include, but are not limited to:Project and Portfolio Management• Oversee and manage a team of projects managers and business analysts and provides oversight for the PMO project portfolio.• Utilize best practices and standard project delivery methodology.• Assist in developing and implementing a project portfolio management framework for all PMO-led projects.• Manage resource plans to balance workload.• Engage with stakeholders including business subject matter experts, vendors, and up to executive leadership.• Assign projects and develop workplans based on capacity and expertise; monitor progress and provide guidance throughout project cycles.• Oversee and participate in the creation of written products, including briefing documents, reports, and presentations summarizing analysis• Brief senior leaders and stakeholders on engagement progress and findings. • Perform root cause analysis on issues encountered during project delivery and devise course correction and 'get to green' plans. • Monitor and review project progress, identify obstacles and risks, and perform root cause analyses to get troubled projects on track.• Interpret data, evaluate trends, and develop evidence-based recommendations.Team Leadership and Supervision• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities. • Communicate effectively with leadership, stakeholders, and delivery teams.• Engage the PMO staff resources to execute across multiple projects.• Foster a collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement, shared learning, and execution excellence.• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of project management staff.General• Perform other duties and special projects as required.
Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or related field and 5 years of experience in project management. Two years of the experience must have been at a supervisory level. Preferred Qualifications:• 5+ years of experience in project management.• Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or related field (or 9 years’ experience in lieu of a degree).• Influencing and team development skills.• Proficient in Project Management software.• Strong organizational and planning skills. • Strong oral and written communication skills.• Ability to lead others through aggressive challenges, obstacles, deadlines and changes.• Ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically with agency partners and project teams.Preferred Qualifications and Skills:• Master’s degree in business, computer science or related filed.• Certification in Project Management (PMP).• Familiarity with technology projects and/or system implementation.• Experience with program or portfolio management.NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES.
