The HR Specialist will develop and administer sound labor relations and HR policies, programs and services to assist the Manager Human Resources.
Principle Accountabilities:
Advises the Manager Human Resources in the development & administration of sound HR/Personnel policies that are conducive to good employee-management relations.
Administers the hourly absenteeism policy, has discretion to recommend disciplinary action up to the written warning level. As needed, handles 3rd Step grievance responses, up to and including settlement of the grievance. Arranges 4th Step meetings. Organizes grievance files, assists in preparation and presentation of arbitration.
Assists with the activities of the Human Resources staff to ensure division and mill objectives are accomplished. Replaces the Director - Human Resources in his/her absence to provide consistent application of policy and procedures. Assists with the development & administration of the department budget.
Provides leadership, counsel and support to staff in the areas of labor relations, employee relations, benefits administration, training, security and ISO Quality Systems. Responsible for mill compliance with all EEO requirements.
Participates with mill management and corporate executives in strategic planning to develop the Company agenda for labor contract negotiations. Assists with administration of PCA salary program & insures compliance with budget. Assists with recruitment, screening & selection of exempt and non-exempt personnel.
Places notice of job positions and awards. Prepares and distributes hourly personnel status report, training report, accession reports & classification report. Inputs all hourly wage and position data into mill payroll and Ceridian systems. Manages the hourly recruiting/new hire process.
Basic Qualifications:
0-3 years’ experience in all phases of Human Resources/Labor RelationsAuthorized to work in U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s DegreeExperience working in union environment.Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certificationThe successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people, including employees, management, government officials and business leaders.
