We have an exciting opportunity for a Spaceflight Hardware Pyrotechnic Systems Engineer to join the team with Oceaneering, a teammate company.

** We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews. **

The Spaceflight Hardware Pyrotechnic Systems Engineer will\:

Identify technical needs and manage systems engineering and technical integration activities for pyrotechnic systems over the entire life cycle, including design, development, test, evaluation, verification, launch, on-orbit, and entry operations. Support requirements development, design reviews, test and verification plans, and other technical reviews of NASA pyrotechnic systems. Direct and support design, development, test, and verification activities to ensure the system meets its requirements Provide oversight and recommendations into spacecraft pyrotechnic systems architecture, designs, requirements, and performance. Assist in root cause identification and resolution of technical problems and issues. Perform hazard reports assessments and analyze technical feasibility of pyrotechnic devices. Coordinate with Safety and Mission Assurance to ensure safety measures are in place for pyrotechnic devices. *

Requisition Qualifications\:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Skilled in using principles and practices involved in the definition, design, development, integration, test, manufacturing, and operations of pyrotechnic systems including all elements within a pyrotechnic system. Elements include but are not limited to, initiators, detonators, safe and arm devices, explosive transfer lines, pyro valves, riser cutters, reefing line cutters, shaped charges, separation bolts, frangible joints, frangible nuts, through bulkhead initiators, cartridge assemblies, and mechanically actuated devices. Experienced with pyrotechnic flight hardware qualification, certification, and acceptance tests. Experience in Fundamentals of Pyrotechnic Design Experienced in definition of pyrotechnic system architecture, component/device design, structural interfaces, NASA safety standards, pyrotechnic standards, and operational requirements. Skilled in systems engineering and scientific principles and practices of pyrotechnic systems for spacecraft development and evaluation, including cost/risk trades, design optimization, problem resolution and hardware enhancements or improvements. Skilled in maintaining excellent communication, awareness of expectations, and relationships with direct supervisors, and Center, Agency and other high-level stakeholders. Proficient in MS Office / Technical Writing

Requisition Preferences\:

Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes. Knowledge of oversight required for Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) hardware over the development life cycle. Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and unique disciplines. Experienced with the model-based systems engineering methodology, approach, and programs. Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field.
