Job Description

AVANI Adelaide Residences are looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Reporting into the Assistant Hotel Manager this leadership role is responsible for managing all aspects of kitchen operations, including overseeing a small team of 3 chefs. The role is hands-on, managing shifts independently, ensuring food quality, controlling wastage, and maintaining tight controls on COGs.

The position operates within café-style operations, covering mornings mainly, some evenings, most weekends, and also catering for events and bulk catering orders.

Work alongside, direct, and support kitchen team members to ensure excellence and consistency in all dishesOversee the performance of kitchen staff, maintaining high standards and uniformity in delivered productsAssist in the creation of menus and perform cost analysis to maintain profitabilityManage inventory levels and oversee back-of-house food and labour expensesImplement procedures to uphold high standards of presentation, sanitation, service, and product qualityEnsure compliance with all health and safety regulations and food standardsManage recruitment, induction, training, and rostering of kitchen team membersCurate and refine recipes to meet diverse culinary preferences, dietary restrictions, and allergiesAdmin tasks including food safety compliance, ordering, menu planning, costing, updating menus online, and general health and safetyStakeholder management – working closely with the F&B operations team, suppliers, online vendors (UberEats, Menulog), and head office procurement team

Expected Hours: Full time, 38 hours per week

Location: AVANI Adelaide Residences, 176 Franklin St, Adelaide SA 5000

Salary: $73,000-$77,000 (excluding super)

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

Relevant Certificate III in Commercial CookeryMinimum two years’ experience working as a Sous ChefExceptional leadership skills with experience motivating and managing a skilled and diverse teamAbility to work under pressure in a dynamic kitchen environmentExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsFlexibility to work across a variety of shifts, including weekends and public holidays
