**The Opportunity**
This position is based at our **Corporate Headquarters in Abbott Park, IL** , within the **GES** **General Engineering Services** division.
Are you tired of working nights, weekends, and holidays? This role offers a structured **Monday–Friday schedule, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.** , with occasional weekend shifts as business needs arise. This position supports all phases of culinary operations for Abbott’s food service division while adhering to all guidelines, health department regulations, and Abbott policies. As a **Sous Chef** , you contribute to the overall success of the corporate dining service program for Abbott’s global headquarters. Responsibilities include receiving direction from the Unit Manager and AP22 Senior Chef, hands‑on involvement in menu creation, product ordering, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels. You will follow safety and sanitation protocols, provide exceptional customer service to Abbott employees and guests, minimize waste, and support operational efficiency.
**What You’ll Work On**
+ Apply knowledge of large‑volume cooking and batch preparation
+ Assist in coordinating and preparing various menu items
+ Support planning, daily menu creation, and updating standardized recipe books
+ Aid in managing costs and controlling expenditures
+ Follow and write standardized recipes in large‑volume format
+ Use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and online vendor ordering portals
+ Ensure food quality, presentation, and timely service
+ Maintain adherence to standards, recipes, and presentation specifications
+ Monitor holding, storage, stocking, and food rotation to uphold sanitation standards
+ Demonstrate adaptability, teamwork, and a friendly, collaborative approach
**Requirements**
+ Maintain and properly use provided PPE and safety equipment
+ Use knives and machinery containing sharp components
+ Stand and walk for extended periods during most of the shift
+ Move safely throughout all back‑of‑house (BOH) and front‑of‑house (FOH) areas
+ Work in environments with varying noise levels, ventilation, smoke, and temperature extremes
+ Demonstrate basic English reading and writing skills
+ Effectively multitask
+ Frequently reach, bend, stoop, and carry
+ Lift and carry up to **50 lbs**
+ Work in warm and cool environments, both indoors and outdoors
**Required Qualifications**
+ **4 years** of related culinary experience
+ Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, healthcare, or similar food service operations
+ Knowledge of food and industry trends with emphasis on quality, production, sanitation, safety, cost control, and presentation
+ **ServSafe** or **Department of Health Manager Certification** preferred
+ **ServSafe Allergen Awareness Certification** preferred
+ Associate degree in **Culinary Arts** preferred
+ High school diploma or **GED**

The base pay for this position is $16.85 – $33.75 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
