Job Description for Application Support (Solution Architect - Engineering)About the Role:We are looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented Solution Engineer to join our Application Support team, specializing in Substation Automation System and Solutions. This role is pivotal in driving and leading standardization initiatives across various transmission utilities and providing end-to-end technical support across multiple phases – from requirement gathering to post-sales execution.Key Responsibilities:• Lead efforts to standardize substation automation system (SAS) architectures across transmission utilities in India.• Develop and maintain standardized engineering practices for SAS including Standard architectures, BOQ, IED configuration, HMI design, and communication protocols.• Coordinate with CTU, STUs, and private transmission companies to ensure uniform implementation of IEC 61850-based systems and their standard approval.• Standardization with utilities and vendors to ensure optimization in cost and project execution timelines.• Support utilities in design reviews, FAT/SAT procedures, and commissioning of SAS projects to ensure compliance with standard practices.• Conduct training programs and technical workshops to build internal capability and promote adoption of standardized SAS frameworks.• Evaluate emerging technologies such as digital substations, process bus, and cybersecurity solutions for integration into standard SAS designs.• Support opportunity identification and technical proposal creation.• Evaluate and optimize technical offers.• Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Execution teams for smooth project delivery.• Provide technical support during execution (engineering, configuration, and commissioning).• Support demos and Proof of Concepts (PoC) for prospective customersQualifications:• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Power Systems or Automation.• 8+ years of experience in substation automation design, configuration, or utility coordination.• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA systems, IEDs, and communication protocols.• Experience with engineering tools for SAS configuration, such as system configurators, network analyzers, and protocol testers.• Strong understanding of Indian grid codes, protection philosophies, and transmission system.• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both verbal and written.• Agile learner with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.• Strong critical thinking, quality awareness, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.• Flexible and adaptable to dynamic environments.• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.• Background of handling Utilities / Industry / Infrastructure end-customer is desiredSoft Skills• Excellent Communication (Both written & verbal) & Inter-personal Skills• Should be an accomplished presenter of Sales and/or Technical material to small / large audiences.• Critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving are an essential part of this position.• Enjoys learning new things and build knowledge base in new area.• Enjoys working in Team environments, Exhibits collaboration in multiple stake holder interactions.Job entails travelling: YesThis role is based in Gurgaon, where you’ll get the chance to work with teams impacting entire cities, countries – and the shape of things to come.Make your mark in our exciting world of SiemensWe’re Siemens.
