The Application Operation Services & Quality Engineering (AOSQE) team is an integral part of the Digital Business & Technology Solutions division at Sun Life Financial. Role Overview:

As a Software Quality Engineer within the AOSQE team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software systems. This position focuses on mainframe application delivery in an Agile environment. Your responsibilities will include providing functional and automated testing services, as well as quality assurance activities throughout the systems development life cycle for complex software development projects.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on Quality Engineering experience, with a strong focus on test automation. You should be proficient in designing and developing tests for both functional and regression purposes, utilizing modern frameworks and tools. While a solid understanding of manual testing principles is beneficial, your primary expertise should be in creating efficient, scalable testing solutions. Familiarity with testing in complex software environments is important. Your technical skills and growing quality engineering knowledge will contribute to maintaining the high standards that Sun Life's technology solutions require.

What will you do:

Design and execute comprehensive mainframe test cases to validate business application logicCollaborate within cross-functional Agile teams to deliver product features, including manual and automated testingChampion and implement automation initiatives and quality engineering practices, optimizing tools and capabilitiesDefine test requirements and ensure optimal test environmentsApply advanced problem-solving skills to complex testing scenariosProvide strategic input on test methodologies and approachesImplement Agile methodologies and DevOps principlesUtilize industry-standard tools including Jira, Confluence, qTest, and ToscaDevelop and maintain high-quality test artifacts and documentationCommunicate quality metrics, progress updates, and project concerns to stakeholdersConduct demonstrations of testing initiatives and outcomes

What you need to succeed:

Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience, including development and/or quality automation experienceRelated university degree or college diploma and evidence of progressive development in Quality EngineeringExperience in testing in the Canadian financial services or insurance industryProven expertise in QE best practices, tools, and methodologies for both back-end and front-end applicationsBasic to intermediate knowledge of mainframe application testing (DB2, TSO, IMS, Batch jobs)Proficiency in test automation frameworks and tools, such as ToscaIn-depth understanding of Agile methodologies and DevOps practicesExperience with test management tools (e.g., qTest) and project management software (e.g., Jira, Confluence)Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
