A brighter future is possible with _you_ . **Job Summary** We are currently seeking a **Software Engineering Intern – Back End Developer** for Summer 2026 (May 18- early Aug). This position is 100% onsite located in **Arlington, VA. The application deadline is Feb 16, 2026.** The qualified candidate will become an integral member of a team responsible for the development of software applications to support internal research and development projects, commercial projects, and potentially, government contract work in homeland security. The candidate will provide engineering support to technical staff and managers including the design and development software tools to assist in these tasks. **Responsibilities** + Works with other team members to design, build, modify, and implement software solutions. + Follow functional requirements and documentation to code, modify and debug programs for assigned projects or functional areas. + Support data management activities by creating database schemas, processing data, and performing data validation. + Applies standard practices to analyze programs and formulate logic, prepare flowcharting, perform coding, and test/debug programs. + Prepares and obtains approval of system and programming documentation + Additional duties include supporting test and evaluation of transportation security systems **Key Qualifications** + Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or related field of study. + Must have at least two years of undergraduate coursework completed by the start of the internship. + Familiarity with object-oriented concepts and programming languages such as, but not limited to, C#, Python, C++, or Java. + Must be a self-starter, adaptable, able to dynamically change focus while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. + Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. + Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an Active DOD Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain Transportation Security Administration Suitability. **Preferred Qualifications** + Fundamental understanding of relational databases. + Experience GUI programming. **Preparing You for Career Success** The Battelle intern and co-op program is a great way to increase experience both on a team and as an independent contributor.
