As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the architecture, guiding technical decisions, and mentoring engineers across squads. You’ll be a hands-on leader, deeply involved in product development and platform evolution.
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help lead the development of a Pipeline Orchestration Platform — a product designed to simplify and automate service bundle promotions and environment rollbacks.
This platform will be UI-driven, secure, multi-tenant, and fully observable. It will integrate with our existing deployment infrastructure and serve both technical and non-technical users across engineering, operations, and support.
You’ll be responsible for driving technical excellence, collaborating across teams, and ensuring the platform is scalable, maintainable, and aligned with Pismo’s engineering standards.
The Work Itself
Design and implement orchestration logic for coordinated service promotions and rollbacks.Build secure, scalable APIs and front-end interfaces for technical and non-technical users.Integrate with deployment infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.Ensure full observability through dashboards, logs, and alerts.Collaborate with SRE, Security, IAM, and Architecture to meet operational and compliance standards.Lead technical discussions, evaluate trade-offs, and document architectural decisions.Promote best practices in monitoring, alerting, and performance optimisation.Contribute to the long-term evolution of the platform as a reusable product across Pismo.
Essential Functions
Act as a technical lead across squads, influencing architecture and engineering practices.Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers and tech leads.Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.Drive adoption of security practices (e.g., OWASP), documentation culture, and code quality.Participate in strategic planning, feature prioritisation, and risk mitigation.Collaborate with Engineering Managers to maintain high software maturity and delivery velocity.Ensure integration with AWS services follows best practices and performance standards.Identify cross-team dependencies and proactively manage technical interactions.This is a remote position. A remote position does not require job duties be performed within proximity of a Visa office location. Remote positions may be required to be present at a Visa office with scheduled notice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in cloud architecture, security, or software design are a plus.
The Skills You Bring
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on distributed systems and platform development.
Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), CI/CD, and orchestration tools.
Strong proficiency in backend and frontend technologies, system design, and API development.
Experience with monitoring tools, alerting systems, and performance tuning.
Familiarity with security standards, multi-tenancy, and auditability.
Ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering culture.
Skilled in communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.
