This is a Software Engineer II  role in the WAS Tech (Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology) Organization.

WAME is aligned to support the technology needs of Schwab Asset Management Solutions which is a Schwab organization that unites money management, research, and asset management platforms for mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), managed accounts, alternative investments and insurance.

Our team delivers and supports Advice applications and products used by Schwab Representatives and our Clients as they plan for their financial future. The position will directly support the WAS Tech managed investing and advice technology platform and be responsible for providing technical leadership and software development within the engineering team and for our business partners. As Specialist Software Developer, you will be responsible for delivering high quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing delivery environment. It requires highly motivated and focused developers curious to build new and innovative solutions for our clients.

What you’ll do:

You will bring your Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) techniques and skills to an Agile engineering team Actively collaborate with the team in ongoing product maintenance and development, including design, development, review, integration, test, and deployment activitiesPrimarily Java and Spring technologies to develop, deliver and maintain, world class enterprise and high-quality applications to our customers.Support Production deploymentsProvide Production Support on a rotational basis for suite of Advice appsLearn, develop and deploy security best practices during code development and deployment activitiesDevelop proof of concepts under guidance of Sr DevelopersLearn CI/CD pipelines and perform deployment activitiesEnsure the highest quality software is developed, delivered and maintainedWork collaboratively in an Agile Delivery Team understanding the nature of the work we do and determining how to break down complex work items into small deliverable units for delivering business value Work with Product Owners to understand application and system functionality and behaviors Estimate effort involved in developing solutions to help refine user storiesWhat you have
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or relevant work experience. 3+ years or more of hands-on experience in application software development, preferably developing APIs, Batch Jobs and Backend Capabilities for Web applications3+ years’ experience developing unit testing and regression testing development 2+ years of API development experience using microservices design patterns

Technical competency in an Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) language such as Java, J2EE and JavaScript Strong knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals in algorithmic thinking and design, data structuresStrong conceptual knowledge on database design and data modeling Strong understanding of Spring framework and Spring ecosystemStrong understanding of Git, GitHub and code managementKnowledge of the full software development lifecycle and frameworks such as ScrumSelf-starter who can grasp difficult concepts quicklyStrong programming, debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsTeam player with excellent oral and written communication skills Positive attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and strong work ethic with high level of integrity

Preferred Qualifications:

Exposure to cloud platforms such as Pivotal Cloud FoundryCoursework and/or experience in JavaScript frameworks like Angular JSCoursework and/or experience developing Junit testsExperience or familiarity with Atlassian suite of products (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket)You are driven by innovation, understanding new tools and technologies and have a commitment to lifelong learning
