Job Summary

Battelle’s Defense and Material Solutions Business Unit is currently seeking an entry-level Software Engineer with a focus on embedded systems. This position is located in Columbus, OH.

 

The selected candidate will assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of software for embedded systems running on Linux platforms. Responsibilities include writing and debugging software in C, C++ and Python, integrating software with hardware systems, and supporting system-level testing and validation. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, technicians, and support staff.

Responsibilities Develop and maintain software for embedded systems using C, C++ and PythonDesign and implement software modules for Linux-based platformsAssist in system integration and testing of embedded softwareTroubleshoot and debug software issues in embedded environmentsContribute to software documentation, including design specifications and test plansAnalyze technical data and assist in interpreting resultsParticipate in Independent Research and Development (IR&D) effortsCollaborate with internal teams to meet project goals within schedule and budget constraintsIntegrate software components with external systems, including hardware interfaces and networked environmentsKey Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, or a related fieldSole US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a government clearanceStrong programming skills in C, C++ and PythonBasic networking skills (e.g., TCP/IP, socket programming)Familiarity with Linux operating systems and development toolsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailWillingness to travel as required by project tasksPreferred Qualifications Current security clearanceExperience with embedded software development and debugging toolsFamiliarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or Linux kernel modulesExposure to signal processing or control systems softwareExperience with scripting and automation toolsExperience with RF systems or RF signal processingProficiency with MATLAB for data analysis or algorithm development
