The Special Programs, Evaluations, Assessments, and Response (SPEAR) Wireless Security team is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager will lead our Wireless Security Scaled Evaluations Development team at Amazon Security. Your team will deliver building and maintaining innovative solutions that combine hardware, firmware, and cloud architecture to enable security teams across Amazon to effectively evaluate and mitigate wireless security risks.
Key job responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of SecEngs, SDEs, SysDEs, and TPMs to deliver comprehensive wireless security evaluation solutions
* Oversee the full development lifecycle across hardware prototyping, firmware development, and cloud service implementation
* Work closely with the WiSec Evaluations team to craft and deliver the architectural vision for scalable wireless security evaluation platforms that combine physical devices, embedded systems, and cloud services
* Manage the integration of security expertise, software development, systems engineering, and project management to create cohesive, efficient workflows
* Partner with security teams across Amazon to understand wireless security testing requirements and deliver solutions that enable consistent, efficient evaluations
* Recruit, mentor, and develop team members across various engineering disciplines
* Foster an innovative team culture that leverages the diverse skills and perspectives of team members
* Drive continuous improvement in scaled evaluation capability development
* Own the team's charter, vision, tenets, and roadmaps to drive and communicate the team's decisions
* Communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all types of audiences within your organization and established business partners.
* Write narratives, PR/FAQs, and/or other strategic documents for these audiences
A day in the life
WiSec evaluations start by gathering information about wireless/IT/IOT/OT devices and networks, sending and organizing that information into cloud databases; they then identify security issues from this information (manual and automated) to inform business decisions. Your role will orchestrate the development and automation of this evaluations framework and empower the team to deliver results at scale. This includes cloud managed edge devices, the device command and control software, the data lakes storing the data, the detection, alerting and ticketing services, and the user interfaces that your customers use to execute the evaluations. You will work with the WiSec evaluations team to implement requirements; you will work with your developers to build, operate, and improve the security services; you will work with partners ensure your security services are customer obsessed and provide value to their security operations.
About the team
The SPEAR Wireless Security team conducts wireless vulnerability assessments of Amazon facilities, technologies, and services. We are part of a larger vulnerability assessment team (SPEAR) that identifies vulnerabilities in other security domains. SPEAR is a global team security team with personnel stretched across different countries. We care deeply about the security of our customer's data and are always looking around the corner for them as the defacto security fiduciaries.
Our Wireless Security Scaled Evaluations Development team is a unique blend of security experts, software developers, systems engineers, and program managers. We work collaboratively at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and cloud technologies to create scalable solutions that help protect Amazon's growing ecosystem of wireless and connected devices. Our diverse team composition allows us to approach wireless security challenges from multiple perspectives, resulting in comprehensive and innovative solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Bachelor's degree, or Master's degree
- Experience with the scrum methodology
- U.S. Person or U.S. Citizen due to ITAR/Export Controlled nature of work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- hardware/firmware development, DevSecOps, and development with AWS Services including AWS CDK, IoT Greengrass, Kinesis.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
