Software Development Manager, Distributed SQL (DSQL) Control Plane
This is an important leadership position in the Aurora DSQL organization. We're looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team of 8-10 SDEs building and operating foundational infrastructure that touches every aspect of the DSQL service. Because your team's scope spans region builds, APIs, deployments, monitoring, and service integrations, you will partner with every team in DSQL — engine, control plane, data plane, and beyond — to deliver results for our customers. Success in this role requires someone who can build strong cross-team relationships, drive alignment across organizational boundaries, and deliver cohesive outcomes from many moving parts.

Aurora DSQL is a serverless, distributed SQL database designed for high availability and strong consistency across multiple AWS Regions. Your team's work will directly impact the reliability, scalability, and operational posture of this service.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead, hire, mentor, and grow a team of 8-10 SDEs, fostering a culture of ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
- Work across every team in the DSQL organization to coordinate, unblock, and deliver customer-facing outcomes that no single team could achieve alone
- Own region build infrastructure — ensuring new regions can be stood up reliably and efficiently
- Drive gameday strategy and execution, building muscle memory for operational readiness across the team and org
- Own AWS API and SDK surface area for DSQL, ensuring APIs are well-designed, consistent with AWS standards, and provide a great developer experience
- Lead cellular architecture efforts, designing and evolving the isolation boundaries that underpin DSQL's availability story
- Own AWS service integrations (IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, etc.), ensuring DSQL is a first-class citizen in the AWS ecosystem
- Build and evolve monitoring and observability tooling that gives the team deep insight into service health
- Rethink and re-architect the path from code to production — identify and remove bottlenecks in build, test, and deployment pipelines to dramatically reduce friction and cycle time
