Software Development Engineer II (SDE), MONA
Power AWS from the Inside Out! We're the team that provides the critical nervous system for AWS - enabling secure console access to millions of servers and network devices, managing the automation backbone of AWS's entire network infrastructure, and maintaining precision timing across the globe down to the nanosecond.

Think big: every time an AWS engineer accesses a server, every time a network device is provisioned, and every time precise timing synchronization happens across AWS's global infrastructure - that's us. We're MONA (Management, Out-of-band Networks, and Automation), and we're at the heart of what makes AWS run.

We're the central system of AWS Infrastructure Services, transforming complex network operations into streamlined, automated solutions through Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP). Your code will directly influence how AWS's global infrastructure scales and operates, solving challenges that exist nowhere else in the industry.

What We Really Do:
- Manage 300,000+ production devices that keep AWS running
- Provide secure console access to millions of AWS servers and network devices worldwide
- Own and operate the management network that enables automated device provisioning, monitoring, and telemetry collection across AWS's global infrastructure
- Run our purpose-built, high-precision timing infrastructure that enables Time Sync services with nanosecond accuracy
Your Impact Will Include:
- Architecting solutions that provide reliable, secure console access at massive scale
- Designing automation systems for network device provisioning and management
- Creating software that monitors and manages critical infrastructure
- Developing systems that can't fail

Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will be part of a two-pizza team in an org of 100+ engineers. As a software development engineer, you will:
- Help establish technical direction, foster team culture, grow junior engineers and deliver exciting features to internal and external customers.
- Take end to end ownership of the software development life cycle. This includes design, testing, deployment and operating
- Be very hands-on; work with the engineering team to manage the day-to-day development activities by leading architecture decisions, participating in designs, design review, code review, and implementation
- Champion operational, technical and process improvements
- Work with your manager and other engineers in delivering to the roadmap
- Interact with customers to respond to queries, issues, and complaints

A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer, you'll work on critical systems that power AWS infrastructure. Here's what you can expect:

- Write software that manages console access for millions of AWS servers
- Design and implement automation systems for network device configuration
- Build APIs and services for our global management network
- Debug and optimize high-precision timing distribution systems
- Collaborate with hardware, security, and network engineering teams
- Create monitoring solutions for infrastructure health
- Use Python to develop scalable automation tools
- Contribute to architectural decisions that shape AWS's future
- Partner with teams globally to solve unique technical challenges
