The Software Development Manager(SDM) experience is a unique one at Amazon. Teams are structured in small groups with a strong impetus to innovate, drive end to end ownership and meet critical business goals. As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for hiring and leading a team of engineers developing software. In this position you will partner with product managers, technical program managers and other internal stakeholders.
On the Alexa Built-In (ABI) team, you’ll build software to enable Alexa’s capabilities everywhere – in speakers, appliances, wearables, robots, and more! We’re working with industry leaders to seamlessly integrate Alexa into any and all devices. It’s awesome, and will change the way millions of people interact with their homes, cars and even their workplace.

Key job responsibilities
1. Bringing thought leadership and ThinkBig ideas in driving new initiatives
2. Complete understanding of AWS service usage and cost. Must bring in frugality in AWS resource related decisioning
3. A leader who can get the work done without enforcing the authority, and enables team to take bold risks
4. A coach who can care his people's career growth, and empowers to be a SME by developing best out of them.
5. Implement team mechanisms like sprint planning, retrospective, sprint demos, hackathons, code reviews
6. Own operational excellence for your team.
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
