Role Overview

This post will expand the software development team in the UK office to meet the demands of new and existing programs. The post holder will work alongside a highly experienced chief software engineer in a team of two, with minimal supervision but with access to support and guidance when needed.

You will play a leading role in the design, documentation, development and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for complex software systems. You will develop and maintain code, and integrate software components into a fully functional software system. You will assist with test procedures to ensure software system requirements are met. A key element of the role is to problem-solve and troubleshoot software, database and middleware issues in live production systems.

Responsibilities:

Leads the development, documentation and maintenance of software application architectures in order to meet customer, functional, and/or regulatory requirements, quality objectives, and constraints specific to the applicable domain and available technology. Provides technical leadership for projects including schedules, plans, and estimates. Prioritizes tasks and leads reviews. Assists Project Managers with risk management and progress reviews. Develops software designs and algorithms. Defines external interfaces. Leads trade studies. Ensures application of best practices. Reviews statements of work, translates user requirements into system requirements, processes and tasks and produces estimates. Manages relationships with customers and suppliers and contacts suppliers and subcontractors to exchange technical data and to discuss project performance. Participates in the development of fundamental approaches to projects and requirements for implementation. Leads development, maintenance, and unit tests for complex software applications. Leads architecture decisions and best practice implementations using current and emerging technologies. Participates in internal/external design reviews. Leads integration/test efforts of complex software applications. Leads development, selection, tailoring, and continuous integration and continuous delivery of software. Provides expertise on resolution of operational and integration issues to external customers. Supports issue resolution, leads root cause analysis for all software issues, identifies opportunities and implements process improvements.

Preferred Experience

Previously experience providing technical leadership for projects including schedules, plans, and estimates is desirable.Experience in either aviation or defence would be desirable.Proficient computer skills, use of the Microsoft Office suite.Be an effective team member
