Shift: Full-Time, Rotating Nights (6 PM – 6 AM)

Methodist Hospital is seeking an MSW Senior to provide leadership and advanced clinical support during weekend night shifts in the Emergency Department. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support high-acuity patients while applying your skills in a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare environment.Apply today — help patients and families navigate difficult situations with compassion, leadership, and expertise!Position Overview:The Senior MSW collaborates effectively with the healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and comprehensive care. You will interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, serve as a role model for caring practices, and assess psychosocial risks based on prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness or trauma.You will conduct mental health assessments, facilitate complex discharge planning—including guardianship, foster care, and mental health placements—and provide crisis intervention for high-risk situations. Your leadership in clinical interventions will be essential to ensuring safety and stability during potentially dangerous or acute crises.Key Responsibilities:Collaborate with medical and mental health teams to deliver safe, effective patient care.Interpret and communicate complex psychosocial needs; model caring and professional practices.Assess psychosocial risk factors through evaluation of prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.Counsel patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness or disability.Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.Facilitate complex discharge planning, including guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements.Serve as the primary point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elderly abuse, domestic violence, and institutional abuse.Liaise with protective services, law enforcement, schools, probation, and other agencies.Utilize crisis de-escalation, interviewing, and intervention techniques to support high-risk and dangerous situations.Lead clinical interventions during emergencies to ensure patient safety and stability.Qualifications & Requirements:Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work required.Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW licensure preferred.Certifications: De-escalation certification required within 6 months of hire.Experience: 3-5 years preferred in mental health, child and family services, adult protective services, Veteran’s Administration, or substance abuse.Additional Skills & Knowledge:Knowledge of disease impact, human behavior, and crisis intervention techniques.Understanding of legal mandates related to protective services.Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.Strong crisis de-escalation and intervention skills.Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, and healthcare teams.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.Why IU Health?Join Indiana’s leading healthcare system committed to compassionate, patient-centered care.
