Shift: Full Time, Weekends (Monday, Wednesday, and every other Saturday and Sunday, 8AM-8PM) Join Our Emergency and Inpatient Social Work Team!Are you an experienced social worker ready to provide vital psychosocial support in a fast-paced hospital environment? We are seeking a compassionate Social Worker MSW Senior to serve in the Methodist Emergency Department and assist with inpatient social work as needed. This role offers a dynamic, weekend schedule where you can make a meaningful difference in acute patient care.Apply today — help us deliver compassionate, expert support during critical moments!Position Overview:The Social Worker MSW Senior - Weekends collaborates effectively with healthcare teams to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and comprehensive services. You will assess psychosocial risks, provide mental health evaluations, facilitate complex discharge planning, and serve as a key resource for cases involving abuse, neglect, guardianship, foster care, and domestic violence. You will also utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to manage dangerous or potentially dangerous situations, supporting patients and families through acute crises.Key Responsibilities:Collaborate with medical, nursing, and social work teams to deliver safe, effective patient care.Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, role modeling caring practices.Assess psychosocial risk factors, including prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.Counsel patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness or disability.Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.Support complex discharge planning, including guardianship, foster care, adoption, and end-of-life care.Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, adult/elderly abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.Liaise with protective services, guardianship, foster care, and mental health agencies.Support and lead clinical interventions in dangerous or potentially dangerous situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques.Utilize effective interviewing and crisis management principles with victims, perpetrators, and family members.Develop and maintain strong relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and other stakeholders.Qualifications & Requirements:Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW preferred.Experience: 3-5 years in mental health, child & family services, adult protective services, Veteran’s Administration, or substance abuse preferred.Certifications: De-escalation certification required within 6 months of hire.Skills & Knowledge:Knowledge of disease impact and human behavior for psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.Strong understanding of state and county legal mandates related to child and adult protective services.Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.Expertise in crisis de-escalation and conflict resolution.Ability to work with geographically and socio-economically diverse patient populations.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.Why IU Health?Join Indiana’s largest health system committed to compassionate patient care, professional growth, and a collaborative environment.
