This full-time role offers an opportunity to lead and coordinate care in a dynamic pediatric healthcare environment.Apply today — help children and families navigate difficult situations with expertise, care, and leadership!Position Overview:The Social Worker - MSW Senior effectively collaborates with all members of the healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and comprehensive services. You will interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, serve as a role model for caring practices, and assess psychosocial risk factors based on prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.Your responsibilities include conducting mental health assessments, facilitating complex discharge planning, and serving as a point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, family violence, guardianship, foster care, and mental health placements. You will utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to support high-risk situations and promote safety.Key Responsibilities:Collaborate with healthcare teams to deliver safe, effective patient care and discharge planning.Assess patients’ and families’ psychosocial needs, including prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.Counsel patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness or disability.Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.Support complex discharge planning including guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health placements.Serve as the primary point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, family violence, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.Liaise with protective services, law enforcement, schools, probation, and other agencies.Utilize crisis de-escalation, interviewing, and clinical intervention techniques to support dangerous or high-stress situations.Lead clinical interventions during emergencies to ensure safety and stability.Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and healthcare teams.Qualifications & Requirements:Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work required.Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW licensure preferred.Certifications: De-escalation certification required within 6 months of hire.Experience: 3–5 years preferred in mental health, child and family services, adult protective services, Veteran’s Administration, or substance abuse.Additional Skills & Knowledge:Knowledge of the disease impact and human behavior for assessments, crisis intervention, and counseling.Understanding of legal mandates related to protective services.Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.Strong crisis de-escalation and intervention skills.Ability to develop relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, and healthcare providers.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.Why IU Health?Join Indiana’s leading healthcare system committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
