Snowflake Architect
Position Description:

You will own the end-to-end architecture and implementation of the Snowflake data platform—from landing zone design and security to ingestion, modeling, performance, and operational excellence. You'll partner with engineering, analytics, security, and business stakeholders to deliver governed, cost-efficient, and scalable data products for BI and AI/ML.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

What you'll do

Platform architecture & build

. Design the Snowflake landing zone (org/accounts, environments, network, storage integrations, external stages) and baseline patterns for Dev/Test/Prod.
. Establish RBAC (roles, warehouses, databases, schemas), tagging/classification, and naming standards.
. Implement secure connectivity (e.g., PrivateLink/privatelink-equivalents, key management, OAuth/OIDC/SAML SSO).
. Define data contracts and domain boundaries for shared/reusable data products.

Ingestion, modeling & pipelines

. Stand up batch/streaming ingestion from SaaS, operational DBs, and event buses (e.g., Openflow, CDC, Kafka, Snowpipe/Snowpipe Streaming).
. Lead warehouse-friendly ELT patterns (dbt or SQL) including dynamic tables, materialized views, and star/medallion models.
. Build a feature store or ML-ready zones with Snowpark/UDFs where applicable.

Governance, security & privacy

. Implement row access and masking policies, PII handling, retention, and audit logging aligned to regulatory needs.
. Integrate with catalog/lineage tools; enforce data quality (tests, SLAs/SLIs) and contract testing in CI.

Performance, reliability & FinOps

. Tune warehouse sizing, auto-suspend/auto-resume, multi-cluster, caching, and clustering strategies.
. Monitor credit consumption and storage costs; set budgets/alerts and optimization playbooks.
. Define SLOs for freshness, reliability, and query performance; reduce MTTR via runbooks and on-call rotation.

Ways of working

. Build CI/CD for SQL/dbt/infra (Git-based workflows, Terraform Snowflake provider).
. Coach engineers/analysts; run enablement sessions and documentation.
. Evaluate the add-ons (e.g., ingestion, observability, BI)

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Must-have

. 8–12+ years in data engineering/architecture; 3+ years designing Snowflake at scale.
. Expert SQL and ELT modeling; hands-on with dbt / Openflow (or equivalent) and pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow, cloud schedulers).
. Strong cloud background (Azure/AWS) including object storage, IAM, networking, and secrets management.
. Proven implementation of RBAC, masking/row policies, and compliance-aligned governance.
. Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps/GitLab) and Terraform.
. Clear communicator able to translate technical trade-offs to executives and coach delivery teams.

Nice-to-have

. SnowPro Core and SnowPro Advanced: Architect certifications.
. Streaming/CDC tools (e.g., Kafka, Debezium, Qlik/Attunity, Fivetran, Matillion).
. Observability (Query Profile, Resource Monitors, usage views), incident response.
. BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) and semantic layers.
. Data catalog/lineage and Quality (Atlan, Alation, Monte-Carlo).
. Exposure to ML workloads with Snowpark and/or external compute.
