SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Setup Technician Job purpose: Setup Technicians play a critical role in the electronics manufacturing process. Responsible for configuring, operating and maintaining specialized machinery that places electronic components onto Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). This role demands a strong blend of technical expertise, attention to detail and problem-solving skills to ensure high quality and efficient production. Nature of Duties: Setup and operate SMT equipment, including solder paste printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems Load correct components into feeders and prepare feeders for placement on the SMT machines Program machines with appropriate parameters for specific PCB designs and components Perform machine adjustments (e.g., conveyor width, nozzle configuration, component placement) to optimize performance and minimize defects. Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, production issues, and quality defects. Perform routine preventive maintenance and calibration on SMT machines to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance. Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to resolve complex technical issues and implement corrective actions.  Qualifications: Experience in setting up, operating, and maintaining various SMT assembly equipment (printers, pick-and place, reflow ovens, AOI) Strong understanding of PCB assembly processes, including surface mount and through-hole technology Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and work instructions Knowledge of electronic components, their functions, adn polarity Basic computer skills Excellent troubleshooting skills, identifying and resolving issues quickly and effectively Attention to detail Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Manual dexterity, good hand eye coordination May require the use of microscopes Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent Associates degree or technical school certification in electronics, electrical engineering or related field is preferred 1-5 years of experience in SMT manufacturing or a related electronics assembly environment IPC certification (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) a plus Sanmina is an Equal Opportunity Employer
