The greater impact of this role
As Sleep & Respiratory Care Leader for Japan, you will play a critical role in improving the lives of patients with sleep and respiratory conditions by shaping commercial strategy, accelerating adoption of innovative technologies, and strengthening Philips’ leadership position in a highly complex, regulated, and rental-based market.
You will have end-to-end accountability for the Sleep & Respiratory Care Japan business, leading an integrated commercial vertical across sales, marketing, distribution, and operations. Your leadership will directly influence business performance, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainable growth in Japan.
Responsibilities
Commercial & Market Leadership
Lead Philips’ Sleep & Respiratory Care business in Japan with full end-to-end ownership, defining and executing commercial and market strategies to drive sustainable growth, profitability, and market leadership.Develop and execute national sales and distribution strategies, including sales plans, forecasts, and Annual Operating Plans (AOP) aligned with regional and global priorities.Drive commercial partnerships and market strategies to strengthen competitive positioning and expand Philips’ presence across the Connected Care portfolio.Grow and protect annual revenue,particularly within the Japanese rental model, through strong commercial execution and customer partnerships.Sales Management & Execution
Lead all commercial sales activities, ensuring effective territory planning, resource allocation, and execution across regions.Oversee a fully integrated end-to-end commercial model including sales, marketing, key account management, sales operations, service & repair, customer support, logistics, and distribution.Drive operational efficiency and cost-effective execution to support sustainable business performance and profitability.Customer, Partnership & Stakeholder Management
Build, maintain, and expand strategic partnerships with key customers, distributors, DME partners, and other stakeholders, fostering executive-level relationships and mutual value creation.Engage externally with government agencies, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in Japan, influencing policy, navigating regulatory complexity, and negotiating critical matters impacting the business.Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term partnership success.Organizational & People Leadership
Lead and develop a large, senior commercial organization across sales, marketing, e-commerce, sales operations, and business development, with direct leadership of 15 FTE and overall scope of 800+ employees.Set clear strategic direction and manage execution through senior leaders to achieve organizational objectives.Drive talent development, succession planning, performance management, and leadership capability building to ensure a strong and future-ready organization.Foster high levels of team morale, engagement, and collaboration across all offices in Japan.Cross-Functional & Executive Engagement
Partner closely with regional and global leadership teams and cross-functional functions including finance, supply chain, quality & regulatory, R&D, and HR.Maintain strong alignment with the regional Business Unit, including direct reporting lines and governance, to ensure strategic coherence and execution excellence.Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
Drive Market-to-Order excellence by applying LEAN principles and continuous improvement initiatives.Ensure effective, efficient operations that support sustainable business performance, profitability, and customer experience.Financial Ownership
Lead budget planning and full P&L management optimizing financial performance, cost efficiency, and long-term value creation.Your team
You will lead a large, senior, and multi-layered commercial organization across sales, marketing, sales operations, e-commerce, and business development, with direct leadership of approximately 15 FTE and an overall organizational scope of 800 employees.
You will work closely with regional and global leadership teams and partner cross-functionally with finance, supply chain, quality & regulatory, R&D, and HR. Externally, you will engage with executive-level stakeholders including healthcare providers, distributors, DME partners, government agencies, and strategic customers.
Minimum required Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Sales, Marketing, or equivalent.You know you’re a fit if:
15+ years of experience in senior commercial and strategy leadership roles.Proven experience leading large, multi-layered organizations (direct teams of 12+ with overall scope up to 700+ employees).Deep experience across Sales Strategy, Business Development, E-commerce, Sales Operations, and Marketing Technology. Career experience within a matrixed MedTech environment.Proven ownership of a large P&L (USD 350M+).Deep expertise in DME (Durable Medical Equipment) sales is mandatory.Experience with respiratory medical equipment and related healthcare ecosystems.Fluent Japanese, based in Tokyo, Japan.

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
