Hatch is actively seeking a Site Inspector with specialization in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (EIT, P.Eng, or capable of earning a P. Eng. within one year of hire) to join our site team providing construction management and inspection services during the construction of the Project. The project involves construction of a 9 km tunnel. This is a site-based position, located in Squamish, BC.
Responsibilities:
Conduct daily site inspections to verify construction activities are compliant with design drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents. Coordinate with the Client, Contractor, and other site entities to communicate inspection findings and ensure alignment on project requirements. Monitor and document construction progress, safety practices, and quality control measures. Prepare and submit detailed daily inspection reports, including photographs and relevant records. Assist with the review of contractor submittals such as RFIs, RFVs, and clarification requests. Track and verify adherence to construction schedules and flag deviations to the appropriate project leads. Support the review of contractor work related to payments and change orders by providing field observations and inspection data. Participate in regular site and project meetings to provide updates on inspection-related matters. Build professional working relationships with all stakeholders on-site to facilitate effective communication and issue resolution. Maintain accurate and organized site inspection records and logs.Work Conditions:
Duties may vary with construction schedules. Typically 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday (day shift only). May require limited availability on weekends or holidays to address urgent site issues.Qualifications:
5–7 years’ experience in civil construction, inspection, monitoring, or engineering support. Preferred background or interest in underground and tunneling projects. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Geological, Mining Engineering, or related field. E.I.T. or P.Eng preferred but not mandatory. Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with design or inspection software is an asset. Valid driver's license. Demonstrated interest in infrastructure and civil engineering. Prior experience on construction sites and working with contractors. Understanding of tunnel construction methods and terminology is an asset. Excellent attention to detail, communication, and report-writing skills. Strong interpersonal skills with a flexible and proactive attitude. Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team. Physically capable of performing inspections (walking, standing, climbing ladders/stairs, bending, working in confined spaces).Work schedule: 2 weeks on, 1 week off, with rotating day and night shifts.
