We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Site Reliability Engineer to provide comprehensive support for the high-priority R&D Sybase database environment. This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, and integrity of the database, supporting all customers of the environment, and facilitating the transition to a new database platform and AI OPs. The ideal candidate will possess strong IT and analytical skills, superior communication abilities, project management experience, and the capacity to remain calm and effective under pressure while thinking creatively to solve problems.
Responsibilities – What You will Do
Data Operations SupportProvide day-to-day support for the R&D Sybase database, ensuring high availability and reliability.Respond to and resolve incidents, service requests, and issues related to the database environment.Serve as the primary point of contact for all R&D Sybase database support activities.Database Monitoring, Tuning & DevelopmentCollaborate with DBAs to monitor database health, performance, and capacity.Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.Assist with regular database maintenance, upgrades, and patching.Troubleshoot SQL issues and build/maintain stored procedures as needed.Use analytical skills to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.Scheduling, Automation & Source ControlManage and support the scheduling tool responsible for automated jobs and processes within the R&D Sybase environment.Ensure timely execution of scheduled tasks and troubleshoot failures.Utilize GitHub for source control, versioning, and collaboration on scripts and automation.Data Integrity & Change RequestsProcess all data integrity requests, including data additions, deletions, and updates.Ensure changes are compliant with data governance and security policies.Document and track all data changes for audit purposes.Process Development & InnovationDesign, document, and implement new processes to enhance database operations and support evolving business needs.Think out of the box to develop creative solutions for operational challenges.Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.Customer Support & CommunicationProvide technical support and guidance to all customers and users of the R&D Sybase environment.Ensure customer issues are addressed promptly and professionally, with clear and effective communication.Transition, Gap Analysis & Project ManagementSupport the migration off the legacy Sybase database by identifying and documenting gaps between the current and target environments.Conduct gap analysis to define current connectivity, usage patterns, and uptime requirements.Plan and coordinate system maintenance and transition activities, applying project management best practices.Assist in the planning and execution of the transition to the new database platform.DocumentationMaintain comprehensive documentation of the current environment, processes, and procedures.Prepare transition documentation to support knowledge transfer and continuity. What Skills You Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.Proven experience supporting Sybase or similar relational database environments.Strong IT and analytical skills, including database administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and automation.Proficient in SQL, with experience troubleshooting and building stored procedures.Understanding of Core Advanced Data Concepts.Experience with GitHub or similar source control platforms.Project management experience, particularly in planning and coordinating system maintenance or migrations.Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to remain calm, focused, and effective in high-pressure or stressful situations.Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.Experience with data integrity processes and change management.Ability to conduct gap analysis and document technical environments.Strong collaboration skills; proven ability to work effectively with DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams, and business users.Ability to think out of the box and develop innovative solutions.Experience supporting database migrations is a plus.Additional Information
This role will require on-call rotation and after-hours support.Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.#LI-BB1
