Site Civil Design Engineer – Land Development | Hybrid | Wethersfield, CT

 

VHB is looking for a talented Site Civil Design Engineer to join our expanding Connecticut team and play a key role in shaping the future of our Land Development practice. From retail and residential communities to institutional, renewable energy, and industrial projects, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio that impacts how people live, work, and thrive.

 

In this role, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals to create innovative site designs, detailed engineering plans, and technical reports that bring our clients’ visions to life. Responsibilities

Work independently with a team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plans, reports and specifications for a multitude of land development projectsAssist with civil engineering for retail, residential, institutional, renewable energy and industrial site design including grading and drainage design, utility design, and site layoutPreparation and/or reviewing of design criteria, drawings and specificationsPreparation of schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentationAssist with the preparation of permitting, design and construction documentsAttend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issuesTechnical and design report writing

Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skillsTeam oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with other emerging professionals and managersAbility to work in a fast-paced office, virtual, and field environment, in rural or urban environmentsProven strong work-ethic and self-motivated to produce high quality outcomesHighly organized, and detail oriented, with ability to think creatively and formulate solutions in team environmentKnowledge of local and state regulations governing site design

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required, Master’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)5-8+ years of professional site/civil design engineering experience requiredProficiency with AutoCAD, TR-55 and Rational Method for drainage design (i.e., HydroCAD, and StormCAD) requiredPE license or ability to obtain within 12 monthsNon-PE licensed candidates will be considered Solid understanding of the typical land entitlement process in CT including permitting at the local and state level preferred
