The shipping lead is essentially a team leader who oversees operations at the ground level, making sure that the rest of the team is accurately picking items for shipment to customers.

Coordinate Forklift Operators in daily routine of loading trailers according to SWR’s standards and factory masterSchedule deliveries in the most cost-efficient and time-saving manner possible, while still meeting customer requirementsReview daily driver’s logs and document any discrepanciesDevelop a strong rapport with various freight linesBecome familiar with freight rates for inter-state and intra-state shippingSecure freight rates prior to shippingCoordinate and communicate with Sales Service concerning the delivery of product to customersAccurately prepare bills of ladingReview forklift inspection sheets daily and prepare maintenance work orders as necessary for repairsCoordinate with Shipping Superintendent, maintenance, and leasing agents for any repairs of forklifts, trucks, trailers, dock plates, dock doors, and any other items as necessarySupport and administer SWR’s policies, procedures, and rulesSupport and administer all safety policies and programsEnsure Forklift Operators are operating forklifts in safe and proper mannerProvide training as necessaryMaintain shipping warehouse in an organized and safe mannerEnsure accurate stock locations in shipping warehouseMaintain a clean and safe warehouse. This includes keeping all sheets off of floorImprove managerial skills by enrolling and attending seminars and technical coursesCommunicate with appropriate supervisory personnel to avoid confusion or problems at shift changesArrive at work at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled start of shiftUse proper lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending techniquesPerform each task in a manner which prevents bodily injury, equipment, and product damageJOB QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GEDMust be able to speak, read, and comprehend EnglishMust be able to write legibly in EnglishAble to lift 25-50 lbs. on a consistent basisMust be able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracyMust be able to read and follow instructions on factory mastersMust have a working telephone number on record with Human Resources, Shipping Superintendent, and Production Manager at all timesMust be a self-starter to the effect he/she must initiate and then follow through to completion of assigned tasksMust be a qualified Shipping Forklift Operator or Truck DriverPrior work experience in the corrugated industry6 months’ experience as a Shipping Forklift Operator or Truck DriverSupervisory experience as a proven manager/lead of at least 5 people Candidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment.
