Responsible for the repair, modification, installation, and dismantling of shipboard hulls, bulkheads, and decks, including the design and fabrication of complex fixtures and jigs to support structural work.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED with apprenticeship or vocational training
5+ years of experience in shipfitting (military or civilian)
Strong understanding of ship repair practices
Technical Skills
Proficient in the use of portable tools, cutting machines, and torches
Skilled in layout and fitting of structural components to tight tolerances
Familiar with MILSPEC and technical documentation
Capable of fabricating templates and molds for structural forming
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and repair instructions
Lay out materials and fabricate parts with close tolerances
Install and align shipboard structures including hulls, decks, and bulkheads
Design and fabricate complex jigs, fixtures, and supports
Use tools such as plasma cutters, torches, and layout tools
Install and fit components using wedges, dogs, and strong-backs
Prepare materials for welding including beveling and grinding
Execute work per QA packages, RECs, CWPs, FWPs, and TGIs
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Ensure control of Level I materials and compliance with QA standards
Adhere to PPE and safety policies, ensuring proper usage and disposal
Follow Quality Assurance (QA) processes and documentation requirements
Mentor junior personnel when required
Travel frequently and work overtime as needed
Work outside core trade when necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one
Pay Details: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour
