The SOM is responsible for managing daily shift responsibilities of the paper mill, including shipping and stock preparation, safety and quality operations, managing production costs, monitoring environmental waste control, and employee relations. The SOM also has mill-wide responsibilities for prioritizing shift maintenance and responding to emergencies.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Excellence
Ensure daily production and maintenance targets and delivery schedules are met in compliance with manufacturing deadlines by allocating personnel, setting up the equipment, re-working parts and personally supporting the troubleshooting efforts.Maintain quality and environmental parameters within prescribed limits, basing decisions on operating conditions and trends.Ensure quality specifications are met; understand key drivers and troubleshoot to meet quality specifications if problems exist.Lead pre-shift safety meetings and monthly safety training meetings to prevent injuries, eliminate hazards, improve housekeeping, and comply with all applicable regulations and mill policies.Communicate requirements with stakeholders in logistics, purchasing, quality, and assembly to ensure necessary information exchange.Coordinate maintenance work to maintain productivity levels and manufacturing needs.Monitor processes to meet the quality goals to ensure customer satisfaction.Maintain staff planning and alter schedules to adapt to unforeseen conditions and maximize productivity.People and Culture
Ensure reliable employee performance and compliance with environmental, safety, production, and quality requirements.Resolve customer issues and identify preventative solutions.Supervise assigned shift employees to accomplish daily safety, quality, productivity and efficiency goals.Oversee workforce planning through assigning and directing work, conducting employee performance reviews and coaching employees to achieve developmental goals.

Required: Paper Machine expertise
Preferred:10 years of relevant experience and working knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
