Shift Manager - Afternoon Shift

About the role

 

The Shift Manager oversees all production activities during their shift, ensuring safe and efficient use of employees, equipment, materials, and processes. They provide operational leadership and are accountable for meeting targets in safety, quality, cost, delivery, and team engagement while maintaining compliance with all standards and procedures.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

1. Performance Management

Optimises line performance to meet the production schedule.Completes shift administration and manages crewing and performance.Facilitates team problem‑solving and supports planning for materials and maintenance.Ensures safety compliance and drives continuous improvement.

 

2. Quality

Ensures product and process quality, including timely inspections and GMP/HACCP compliance.Minimises waste and assists with complaint investigations and root cause analysis.Works with stakeholders on material quality and uses CI tools to improve outcomes.

 

3. Cost

Manages labour and overtime costs to meet budget.Controls cost impacts related to performance.

 

4. Safety

Leads operations with strong OHS focus.Reports and investigate incidents and near misses; ensure risk assessments are completed.Supports Return to Work programs and manages injury reporting, treatment coordination, and follow‑up.

 

5. People Management

Leads, coaches, and develops the shift team.Delivers training to support multi‑skilling and capability.Manages performance issues and completes rostering, leave, and timesheet duties.Participates in meetings and improvement initiatives.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience 

3 – 5 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry at a supervisory levelCertificate 4 in Competitive Manufacturing or Frontline leadership preferred Lean Manufacturing Industry experience preferredProblem Solving Working in a high-pressure environment with set operational targets Experience working with people and teams at all management levels Determining correct courses of action in the absence of direction Training other team members Solid understanding of CI principles and tools
