Shift Manager

Main Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the Production Manager the Shift Manager jobholder is responsible for the effective running of the production department to ensure that the plant meets all of its company and legislative obligations To supervise the Plant production function as directed and drive objectives forwards in line to Plant KPI’s.

Key Responsibilities:

SUSTAINABILITY

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment, whilst enforcing safety rules and regulations. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating regular safety meetings, performing regular safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required. Drives improvements for safer and more ergonomic working conditions. Performs duties without posing a direct threat to anyone or to property. Responsible for maintaining environmental protection, energy optimisation and waste management. This includes promoting correct segregation of waste, regular inspections and investigating environmental incidents as required

 

QUALITY

Responsible for maintaining process quality in accordance with Ardagh Operations’ process and quality standards. Facilitate implementation and adherence to Hygiene and HACCP systems. Investigates and documents Root causes of internal product/process non-conformances Investigates and documents root causes of product/process non-conformances in relation to Customer complaints

 

PERFORMANCE (Output, Efficiency, Spoilage)

Ensures necessary actions are taken to meet Quality, Cost, Delivery targets: set targets, track daily achievements, make appropriate adjustments in resources and organisation, analyse results, identify and implement actions to attain desired result. Promotes/drives continuous improvements for the team and the production department (through 6S, implementations of improvement ideas, SMED, 8D, 6 Sigma, Lean etc.. Handover all necessary information to upcoming shift Handover safe and clean working environment to upcoming shift. Transparent flow of communications to the shift members, to the management and to the support functions. Inputs, retrieves, and evaluates information to and from computer systems to evaluate performance of shift. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, Plant and wider Company, which    includes the ability to handle significant demands and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimise conflicts.

 

HR/Employee Relations

Set and manage clear expectations for team members: behaviour, performance, teamwork, training. Behave like a Role Model at all times. Ensures all standards and procedures are followed (safety rules, routines, quality checks, SOP, etc.).  If deviate take necessary actions to come back to standard. Establishes and maintains an employee relations climate of trust and confidence with employees and their Union Representatives which will promote achievement of Plant and Company goals. Manage non-performers, using appropriate BPE Disciplinary, Capability and Attendance policies as required. Reviews the performance and personal development of all subordinates on an individual basis. Identifies high potential employees and successors and supports development to next level where appropriate. Manage manning levels (right skills for right job) and ensure integration of new team members. Reviews completed Performance Appraisals for all subordinates annually and ensures regular reviews take place. Manages individual developments plans (IDPs) and identifies training needs, with particular focus on technical requirements and Ardagh competencies.  Priorities and actions to be discussed with the Production Manager and Process Leaders. Review IDPs on a regular basis to ensure that training is progressing. Liaison with HR and Production Manager in regard to IDP reviews and Succession Planning. Coach team members on standards of performance and to develop as appropriate.

Professional Requirements

Qualifications

HNC / HND / Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering

Languages

Fluent in English

Computer Skills/literacy

Competent in MS Office applications, ideally with SAP and QA systems including Microsoft Packages, SAP, Ena-blon, Analyse, Prisma, Win CC, SharePoint and Infinity.
