Veterinary Assistant – Surgery Trained

We are seeking a surgery-trained Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced, team-oriented animal hospital. This position is ideal for someone who is dependable, adaptable, and passionate about patient care. We are a collaborative team that values teaching, learning, and coaching, and we’re looking for someone who thrives in that kind of environment.

This role requires flexibility, including weekend availability and comfort with long or extended shifts when needed.

Requirements

Prior experience as a Veterinary Assistant

Surgery-trained (including anesthesia monitoring and dental procedures)

Ability to work weekends

Comfortable with long hours and a busy hospital environment

Open to learning, coaching, and constructive feedback

Strong work ethic and positive attitude

Reliable, punctual, and professional

Job Responsibilities & Skills

A qualified Veterinary Assistant is expected to be proficient in the following:

Patient Care & Technical Skills

Safely restrain animals for examinations and procedures

Obtain blood samples (venipuncture)

Accurately take and record heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature

Assist with surgical procedures, including:

Surgical prep

Anesthesia monitoring

Recovery monitoring

Assist with and perform dental cleanings as trained

Understand and interpret basic laboratory results

Maintain clean, organized treatment and surgery areas

Team & Workflow

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Strong communication skills with doctors and team members

Willingness to help where needed and support the team

Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

Maintain a calm, compassionate demeanor with patients and clients

The pay range for this role is

$15.19 - $19.41 Hourly
