Values: Dependability, Collaboration, Compassion, Unity The Criminalist assigned to the Laboratory Unit is responsible for responding to crime scenes to collect, preserve, and document evidence and to evaluate, examine, analyze, and identify the evidence collected. Examples of Duties for Success •Adhere to policy, procedures, and post orders. •Duties include but not limited to: complete appropriate and required paperwork; testify in court; complete required training; communicate clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals; dispense information to those who need it, Process evidence and investigate crime scenes, using established physical, technical, and/or chemical techniques and recording results by means of notes, photographs and lift cards. •Prepare detailed reports based on actions and findings that are legible, accurate, comprehensive •Safely operate county vehicles. •Respond to crime scenes for evidence collection, documentation, and processing •Evaluate, examine, analyze and identify evidence collected. (Physical evidence, photographs, video, sketches, documentation) •Use of chemicals, instruments and electronic equipment for evidence collection and analysis to include but not limited to laser light devices, lidar 3D scanning devices, AFIS for fingerprint comparison, FARO, etc. •Respond to crime scenes that maybe of graphic and violent nature. •Tolerate noxious odors, handling of deceased persons, and body odors, attend and document autopsies •Prepare cases, ensuring completeness for filing with the district attorney’s office. •Conduct follow-up investigation on assigned cases. •Prepare Court exhibits, enlarged and mounted photographs, sketches, and other exhibits. •Obtain and Execute search and arrest warrants •Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Department policies and procedures and laboratory standards. •Develop and maintain working relationships with members of the legal community (district attorneys, defense attorneys, civil lawyers, judges, court personnel, and other law enforcement agencies. •Provide training and guidance to other members of the Sheriff’s Office, Community, Academy Cadets, and other law enforcement agencies and attend public events. •Utilize power tools, saws, blades, etc as needed •Test fire of firearms for ballistic analysis •Prepare detailed forensic reports for use in investigations and court proceedings, provide testimony in court regarding forensic test results and procedures. •Perform other duties that are assigned Qualifications for Success •Must have High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor of Arts or Science in related field, is preferred •A valid Colorado Driver’s License •2 years of experience related to crime scene processing •Certifications in the following areas/disciplines are preferred: Basic Crime Scene processing from the FBI or CBI; latent fingerprints/palm prints and identifications; crime scene digital photography; death scene investigations, blood-stain pattern analysis; firearms; ballistics. •Membership from any crime scene processing association such as ICSIA, IAI, RMDIAI, ACSR, RS & A is preferred More Qualifications for Success •Knowledge of computer systems •Excellent customer service skills •Ability to Multitask •Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Laws •Be available 24 hours/day & respond in a timely manner Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) •Ability to maintain level of confidentiality •Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups/individuals •Ability to be a good decision maker and problem solver Strong time management skills, ability to meet deadlines Benefits Guide - Active Employees 2025.pdf (blob:https%3A//secure.neogov.com/81843ce0-321a-461b-bcbb-c8f5d7188441) Adams County complies with Colorado’s Job Application Fairness Act (“JAFA”).
