As a Shared Laboratory Resource Assistant – Cage Wash Technician, you will be responsible for cleaning research animal cages and performing a variety of support activities with lower scientific complexity. In this role, you will serve as an essential resource to both operational teams and research personnel, supporting research at all levels within the Biological Resources Unit. This position offers an excellent entry point into the research field within an exciting and ever-evolving healthcare environment.
A caregiver in this role works days shifts from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform various procedures or SOPs to carefully operate and conduct maintenance of core equipment.
Notify senior personnel or supervisor of equipment malfunction or other issues that need immediate attention.
Perform quality assurance on all assigned activities per procedures or SOPs.
Assist with collecting, receiving, processing, transporting, or storing supplies from various labs.
Provide customer service, receive/answer and process departmental communications through iLab ordering system, or email, or phone and/or voicemail, or other technology used for communication.
Perform appropriate cleaning procedures for specific areas.
Sweep and mop various rooms, stock and take trash to dumpsters.
Deep clean biosafety cabinets and clean research animal cages.
Maintain adequate stock of supplies, inventory management of transporting and distributing supplies as needed.
Complete three months on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and CCF policies.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Comfortable being around research animals
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience in a cleaning position (stocking, cleaning, mopping, etc.)
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Physical Requirements:
Ability to transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds
Ability to understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians
Ability to work in an environment of unpleasant odors and sights
Subject to animal bites and scratches
May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
