Job Description

Job Summary

The Sewerage Inspector is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, inspection, and quality control of all sewerage network works on the project site. Working under the guidance of the Resident Engineer (Wet Services) or Assistant Resident Engineer, the Sewerage Inspector ensures that the contractor’s activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and relevant authority standards.

The role involves close monitoring of excavation, pipe laying, manhole construction, and connection works, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements. The Sewerage Inspector maintains detailed site records, verifies materials and workmanship, and supports the project team in achieving timely and compliant completion of sewerage network components in accordance with project and authority standards (e.g., ADSSC, ADM).

Key Job Duties

1. Site Supervision & Quality Assurance

Conduct daily site inspections of sewerage works including trench excavation, bedding preparation, pipe installation, jointing, manhole construction, and backfilling.Ensure works are executed in accordance with approved shop drawings, specifications, and authority standards.Check that the sewer line alignment, gradient, and pipe invert levels conform to design requirements.Monitor proper bedding, surround material placement, and compaction as per project specifications.Inspect manhole structures for formwork, reinforcement, benching, channels, and internal finishes for compliance and workmanship.

2. Material Verification

Verify that all pipes, fittings, manhole components, and concrete materials are approved and meet specified quality requirements.Ensure materials are properly stored, handled, and protected from damage or contamination.Coordinate with QA/QC staff to verify the latest material approvals and ensure traceability of materials installed on site.

3. Inspection & Testing

Witness and record field tests including water or air pressure testing, leakage testing, and manhole watertightness tests.Ensure that testing procedures are in accordance with project and authority requirements.Assist in verifying CCTV inspection results and ensure that non-conformances are properly documented and rectified.

4. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain detailed daily inspection records, site photos, and reports highlighting progress and quality observations.Record and report non-conformities or deviations and follow up with the contractor for corrective actions.Ensure that red-line as-built drawings are continuously updated by the contractor and verified on-site.Support preparation of weekly and monthly progress summaries and inspection logs.

5. Coordination & Communication

Coordinate with the Assistant Resident Engineer and other discipline inspectors (stormwater, water, roads, etc.) to avoid service clashes and ensure coordinated installation.Communicate inspection findings and quality issues promptly to the Resident Engineer for review and direction.Liaise with the contractor’s site engineers and foremen to ensure clear understanding and closure of inspection remarks.

6. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

Monitor the contractor’s compliance with project HSE procedures, especially during deep excavation, confined space works, and lifting operations.Report any unsafe acts, conditions, or environmental incidents to the supervision team.Ensure safe access and proper dewatering arrangements are maintained throughout construction.

7. Technical & Professional Conduct

Maintain a strong understanding of project drawings, specifications, and sewerage standards (ADSSC, ADM, ASTM, BS EN, etc.).Perform duties with impartiality, professionalism, and integrity in line with consultant’s supervision standards.Assist the Resident Engineer during inspections by authorities and in resolving technical issues on site.

8. Handover & Final Inspection

Participate in final inspections and snagging of completed sewerage systems prior to handover.Verify completion of all rectification works, ensuring readiness for testing, commissioning, and connection to existing networks.Support the review of O&M manuals, test certificates, and as-built documentation to confirm compliance prior to final acceptance.

QualificationsBachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering.Minimum 7 years of experience within similar projects, with minimum 3 years in UAE.UAE experience is preferred.Relevant experience in comparable structural & roads projects.
