The U-M International Center provides a variety of services and programs to assist international students, scholars, faculty, and staff at the University of Michigan, as well as U-M students seeking opportunities to study, work, or travel abroad. **Position Summary:**
The SEVIS coordinator manages and coordinates reporting to the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), and mitigates University risk by ensuring compliance with federal government reporting requirements. The SEVIS Coordinator serves as a key U-M contact for Terra Dotta ISSS (International Student and Scholar Services), provides internal production support for the IT applications used by the International Center, and compiles and publishes periodic and ad hoc statistical reports. The SEVIS coordinator identifies and researches areas for technical improvements to International Center processes, and makes independent decisions that impact operations. The SEVIS Coordinator also provides process analysis, training, and documentation that serve campus units including Rackham and Undergraduate Admissions and the Shared Services Center.
This position reports to the International Center for business operational matters, and also has a functional dotted reporting relationship to Student Life Technology Solutions for technology and data governance (the latter items are italicized).
**Responsibilities***
**International Center Information Technology Production Support (40%)**
+ Serve as the functional expert (Application Specialist) for the Terra Dotta ISSS solution at U-M and as liaison to U-M IT staff, to the vendor (Terra Dotta), and to U-M Terra Dotta ISSS users
+ Provide training, guidance and expertise to the primary users of the Terra Dotta ISSS solution (International Center staff, Rackham International Admissions, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Shared Services Center, Medical School Immigration Support and Compliance, and other staff within U-M academic or administrative units).
+ Respond to user questions and issues from these units.
+ Lead user training and develop and maintain unit-specific documentation and training.
+ Work collaboratively to analyze department and user needs; assist with business process analysis as needed to make best use of currently available and future Terra Dotta functionality.
+ Develop or modify procedures and processes to solve complex problems related to the use of Terra Dotta ISSS for government compliance and student support.
+ Streamline and automate processes in Terra Dotta ISSS, as appropriate.
+ Monitor technical changes and updates regarding Terra Dotta and communicate with staff and university stakeholders.
+ Develop Terra Dotta queries and reports and configure Terra Dotta requests and workflows.
+ Test and validate new Terra Dotta functionality as it relates to business processes.
+ Actively participate in Terra Dotta user groups.
+ Provide internal production support for the TeamDynamix "ticketing system" used to track student /scholar communications and certain requests.
+ Create reports and templates for all International Center units
+ Develop processes to use TeamDynamix functions to support IC work.
+ Streamline and automate processes in TeamDynamix to supplement Terra Dotta functionality
+ Monitor new developments and techniques that may be relevant to International Center work. Identify and research areas for technical improvements to International Center processes, monitor effectiveness of new processes, and suggest and implement changes or enhancements, as appropriate.
+ Participate in strategic planning and setting of technical direction for the International Center.
+ Maintain updated knowledge of and familiarity with IT applications used by the International Center. Provide internal assistance and production support for (other) various IT applications used by the International Center, and liaise with Student Life Technology Solutions and U-M Information Technology Services (ITS) as appropriate.
+ Liaison with Student Life Technology Solutions
**Data Integrity & Compliance Support (35%)**
+ Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
+ Maintain updated knowledge of F and J regulations, and specifically of SEVIS reporting requirements and procedures. Respond to University or U.S. government requests for data validation.
+ Monitor international student /scholar compliance with F and J immigration regulations based on SEVIS alerts and Terra Dotta reports. Contact students or recommend actions as appropriate. Take or recommend immediate action on information that could negatively impact an individual's immigration status.
+ Develop methods of supplementing Terra Dotta functionality as needed to ensure compliance with mandated DHS reporting requirements.
+ Manage the batch transfer of international student and scholar data to the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), including initial SEVIS registration/validation for new students and scholars, and periodic (Fall/Winter Terms) SEVIS registration for all F-1 students, as required by Federal regulations. Monitor batches for errors and resolve or route to the appropriate person for resolution. Contact students as needed to resolve data issues.
+ Audit and ensure data integrity and consistency among the various systems involved in SEVIS data reporting, including U-M's student information system (M-Pathways), Terra Dotta, and SEVIS.
+ Monitor systems integrations including data feeds and SEVIS batch processing, validating data, and troubleshooting errors in coordination with Terra Dotta, ITS, and others as needed
+ Evaluate and manage Terra Dotta ISSS SIS changes and HR updates to ensure that accurate data is transmitted to SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)
+ Develop and modify queries and reports using PS Query and Business Objects to monitor data integrity and consistency, and regulatory compliance, and for use by IC staff.
+ In coordination with the International Center's health insurance team and ITS, provide auditing, reporting, and troubleshooting for international student and scholar insurance data managed in M-Pathways (PeopleSoft).
+ Coordinate with the International Center's Faculty and Staff Immigration Services Group (FSIS) on INSZoom-based reporting and auditing)
+ Assist with data audits to identify changes that might implicate H-1B petitions, such as changes to salary, job effort, employment status, job titles
+ Reconcile visa and citizenship status discrepancies between INSZoom and MPathways
+ Generate monthly H-1B expiration report (H-1B visa rows that expire in 3 months and 6 months)
**Reporting & Analytics (15%)**
+ Develop and maintain dashboards, queries, and reports using Tableau, Excel, SQL, PS Query,Business Objects, and Terra Dotta Analytics for use by International Center staff and U-M units.
+ Produce recurring reports such as the International Center's annual statistical report
+ Respond to national surveys (e.g., Open Doors International Student Census and International Scholar Survey).
+ Respond to ad hoc reporting requests from campus units, leadership, and external agencies
+ Translate complex data into user-friendly visualizations and summaries to inform decision making using tools such as Excel and Tableau
+ Query datasets for specific reporting purposes and verify results against underlying data.
**Communications and Other Duties (10%)**
+ Initiate regular International Center targeted electronic communications with international students and scholars, and University departments as determined by report or query results. Provide individual assistance or explanations to students/scholars as needed.
+ Initiate International Center targeted electronic communications to individuals or specific groups of students as requested by International Center staff.
+ Respond to student requests for assistance related to their M-Pathways records, such as address formatting for SEVIS.
+ Assist with International Student/Scholar Orientation, including new student check-in procedures.
+ Participate in International Center and Division of Student Life meetings, committees and workgroups, and campus-wide technical and business process committees.
+ Additional responsibilities and projects, as assigned.
**Required Qualifications***
+ Bachelor's degree
+ U.S. citizen or permanent resident status (a federal requirement for Designated School Officials and Alternate Responsible Officers).
+ Three or more years of demonstrated experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed.
+ Ability to query datasets for specific reporting purposes and verify results against underlying data.
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Google suite, advanced proficiency with spreadsheet software.
+ Working understanding of relational database technologies and query tools.
+ Demonstrated experience developing, documenting, and improving business processes.
+ Experience training others.
**Desired Qualifications***
