Cloud Engineer - Position Summary
The Retail Development Program – Cloud Engineering prepares you for a career in Cloud Engineering at Belk by providing structured training across key areas such as cloud infrastructure, automation, security, and DevOps practices. You’ll work on real-world projects that support our technology transformation while collaborating with IT leaders and cross-functional business teams across the company.
Associates in the program will participate in professional development sessions alongside the broader Retail Development Program cohort, gain hands-on experience through on-the-job assignments, and contribute to enterprise-level cloud initiatives. Each participant is paired with a mentor to support their onboarding, technical growth, and career development.
The Cloud Engineering track is based at Belk’s Charlotte, NC headquarters and offers direct exposure to an engaged leadership team and a strong peer network within the Retail Development Program.
On the Job Experiences Include:
Participate in the design, development, and deployment of cloud-based applications and solutions.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in one or more languages such as Java, Node.js, Python, Golang, or Kotlin.
Collaborate with senior engineers and other team members.
Stay up to date with the latest trends in cloud technologies and software development.
Contribute documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.
Show initiative and drive to continuously learn and grow technical skills.
Support the configuration, management, and monitoring of cloud infrastructure such as GCP.
Learn & assist in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing.
Help maintain infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and assist in root cause analysis.
Support automation tasks and scripting for process improvement.
Follow best practices in security, scalability, and reliability for cloud and DevOps tasks.
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; strong academic performance in Computer Science (Software Engineering preferred).
Must have completed degree between December 2024 – June 2025 and able to start full time September 2025.
Minimum GPA 3.2.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future.
Good understanding of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or similar platforms).
Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Node.js, Python, Golang, or Kotlin.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Eagerness to learn new technologies and take on challenges.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred (Not Mandatory):
Hands-on project or internship experience in cloud or software development.
Familiarity with software development tools, version control (e.g., Git), and CI/CD pipelines.
Understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
