The Retail Development Program (RDP) is a fast-paced three-month program designed to prepare recent college graduates for a full-time role at Belk. We offer opportunities in several of our business functions including Merchandising, Planning, Accounting, Finance and more! The program focuses on key components to support your development: Education, Experience, Exposure, Innovation and Results.
Accounting - Position Summary
The Retail Development Program – Accounting prepares you for a career in Accounting at Belk by providing structured training in multiple functional areas including General Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Financial Operations & Accounts Payable while interacting with leaders and other business areas across the company.
Associates will participate in professional development classes with the broader Retail Development Program cohort, complete on-the-job projects, and program projects. Participants are also matched with mentors to help acclimate to Belk, develop on the job, and identify future career possibilities.
The Retail Development Program – Accounting will hire candidates in our Charlotte, NC headquarters. Participants benefit from an engaged leadership team and a large network of peers across Belk in the Retail Development Program.
On the Job Experiences Include:
Work in a fast paced, dynamic, test and learn environment
Interact with all levels of management to communicate or present topics vital to the business
Prepare weekly/monthly reporting and forecasts
Assist in the development of monthly general ledger account reconciliations
Develop reporting and analysis to identify issues and opportunities
Facilitate on-going partnerships with assigned Expense Champions to ensure understanding of activities and add value to the analytical process
Prepare journal entries and monthly accruals as needed
Review current processes and identify opportunities for process improvement
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; strong academic performance in Accounting (preferred)
Must have completed degree between December 2024 – June 2025 and able to start full time September 2025
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future
GPA minimum 3.2
Prior internship in accounting/finance (preferred)
Proficiency with Advanced Microsoft Excel (Formulas, Functions and features such as Visualization tools, VLOOKUP, Macros), Word, PowerPoint & Outlook
Open to learning, able to adapt to changing circumstances and reprioritize tasks as needed
