**This position works out of our Altavista, VA location in the Abbott Nutrition division.** Our Nutrition business develops science-based nutrition products for people of all ages, from helping babies and children grow to keeping adult bodies strong and active. The Sr. Welder performs welding operations associated with the installation and repair of all types of equipment and buildings. Able to read and layout own work off blueprints and drawings. Has the responsibility of choosing the welding method. Must be able to certify in certain types of welding to be able to perform job function.
**What You’ll Work On**
+ Repair gear heads and reducers, run all types of piping including black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC and flexible tubing, install various components including: seals, bearings, o-rings, gaskets, adhesives, belts, chains, rollers, sprockets, gears and sheaves, troubleshoot repair/rebuild centrifugal/positive displacement pumps, fabricate parts directly from blueprints, weld stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, fabricate guards, etc. out of sheet metal and lexan, cutting of metal with a plasma cutter or torch, machining of parts on a lathe or mill for replacement of repair or worn parts, wire and repair electric motors, repair basic wiring and replace lighting fixtures and lamps, correct size fusing, motor overload protection and wire size per National Electric Code (NEC), read electrical schematics and wire directly from wiring diagrams, use of electrical and precision tools to complete assigned work.
+ Proficient in performing repairs to production equipment and plant utility systems, troubleshooting complex, high-speed filling, packaging and conveying equipment, make machine adjustments to liquid line seamers, bottle sealers and bottle cappers, adjust timing systems such as rotary sterilizers or traywrappers for proper operation, ensure proper operation of electrical / mechanical components and devices (push buttons, switches, timers, solenoids, electrical disconnects, AC and DC motors), troubleshoot and repair variable frequency drives, filtecs, taptones, barcode scanners, video-jet ink printers, vision systems and computer control systems.
+ Maintains repairs on equipment to avoid breakdowns and accidents by welding pipelines, pumps, tractors, fork lift trucks, railings and other assigned equipment.
+ Cuts metals to prescribed dimensions Grinds out rust and fills in cracks.
+ Purge weld pipes to remove impurities to avoid contaminants from solutions, irrigations, etc.
+ Use inert gas (Argon, Carbon Dioxide) to purge pipes.
+ Prepare surface prior to welding Must be able to read gauges.
+ Perform electric high frequency welding on aluminum products.
+ May become certified to weld on tanks under ASME section IX.
You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
**Required Qualifications**
+ 2 year mechanical/electrical technical degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
+ Must have successfully achieved Multi-Craft Level III status and successfully completed one annual recertification.

The base pay for this position is $24.50 – $49.00 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
