Job Title: Senior Weight Control Engineer
Job Summary
The Senior Weight Control Engineer is responsible for managing and controlling project weight, mass, and center of gravity (CoG) throughout the project lifecycle. The role ensures that weight estimates, budgets, and reports are accurate and aligned with design development, supporting safe, compliant, and cost?effective project execution.
Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain the project Weight Control Philosophy, procedures, and execution plans. Establish and manage weight budgets, growth allowances, and weight contingency plans. Prepare and update weight estimates during Concept, FEED, Detailed Design, and EPC phases. Monitor and control weight changes, ensuring deviations are identified, assessed, and reported. Develop and maintain Weight Control Reports, Weight Breakdown Structures (WBS), and weight registers. Track dry weight, operating weight, live loads, and center of gravity (CoG) changes throughout the project. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (process, piping, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) to gather and verify weight data. Review and validate contractor and vendor weight data, including equipment weight datasheets. Support layout optimization and design decisions to minimize weight growth and manage CoG limits. Participate in model reviews, design reviews, and value engineering exercises related to weight optimization. Provide weight input to structural and naval analyses, lifting studies, transportation, and installation activities. Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and project specifications. Prepare management reports and dashboards highlighting weight status, risks, and mitigation actions. Support construction, fabrication, and as?built weight reconciliation activities. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Naval Architecture, or related Engineering discipline. Minimum [10–15+] years of experience in weight control engineering within oil & gas, energy, offshore, or large industrial projects. Proven experience across FEED, detailed design, and EPC project phases. Experience with offshore platforms, FPSOs, topsides, or large modular facilities is highly desirable. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of weight estimation methodologies, weight control systems, and CoG calculations. Proficiency in weight control tools and software, including: Microsoft Excel (advanced level) Weight management databases and reporting tools 3D model?derived weight extraction (PDMS, E3D, SP3D, etc.) Familiarity with structural design, equipment layouts, and material take?offs (MTOs). Understanding of installation, lifting, transportation, and load?out considerations. Soft Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and problem?solving capabilities. Excellent coordination and communication skills with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. High attention to detail and strong reporting discipline. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight project schedules. Leadership capability to guide junior engineers and influence design decisions.
