Duties Description Standard Duties:As an Appeals Senior Unemployment Insurance Referee, you would be responsible for day-to-day supervision and oversight of a team of Appeals Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) and operations of UIAB office. Responsibilities would include the review of hearing decisions or recommended appeal decisions for legal analysis, appropriate decision writing, and consistency with prior Board and Court precedents; and the mentoring and development of a team of ALJs. You would be responsible for hearings as needed and appeals pursuant to USDOL and NYS law and Due Process requirements.
Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive Qualifications:Admission to the NYS bar and three years of post-licensure professional legal experience including one year of service as an Unemployment Insurance Referee.Competitive Qualifications:To be considered for this position, a review of your state history is needed. Disbarment or loss of registration shall result in termination or suspension of employment.Reassignment Qualifications:Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a/an Senior Unemployment Insurance Referee; if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Senior Unemployment Insurance Referee eligible list for this location, if one exists.52.6 Transfer Qualifications:One year of permanent or contingent-permanent as a Grade 25 or higher determined to be administrative by Civil Service.Note: For all transfers noted, a comprehensive list of titles approved for transfer is available through Civil Service GOT-IT at https://careermobilityoffice.cs.ny.gov/cmo/gotit/.Preferred Qualifications: Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
