Purpose
Support transportation engineering projects by performing a combination of surveying and construction inspection tasks in the field. Ensure accurate data collection, adherence to construction specifications, and effective coordination with field crews and project teams. Apply advanced field knowledge to help deliver safe, timely, and high-quality transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
Serve as a senior field technician, providing guidance and informal leadership to less experienced crew members.Work under the direction of a licensed surveyor or engineer to execute field assignments independently and efficiently.Support site safety practices and help maintain an organized and compliant work environment.At the Operational and Company Level
Represent Bowman professionally at job sites when interacting with contractors, inspectors, and municipal personnel.Communicate issues or concerns clearly to supervisors and project managers.Do the Work
Perform field surveys including construction layout, topographic, and boundary surveys using GPS and robotic total stations.Conduct construction inspections on transportation projects such as roads, bridges, and pedestrian infrastructure, ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications.Prepare detailed and accurate field notes, daily inspection logs, and as-built sketches.Read and interpret transportation design plans, profiles, and cross-sections to verify field conditions.Coordinate effectively with team members in the field and office to ensure data and reports are complete and accurate.Use electronic data collectors, levels, and inspection tools to document measurements and observations.Transfer and organize field data for use by design or inspection teams.Assist in equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.Success Metrics and Competencies

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework in surveying or construction a plus.Minimum 4-6 years of combined experience in land surveying and construction inspection, preferably on transportation projects.Experience with GPS, total stations, data collectors, and construction inspection software.NICET Level II in Transportation/Highway Construction Inspection preferred, but not required.Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification or progress toward licensure is a plus.Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
