Job DescriptionThe Senior CAD/BIM Technician is responsible for producing, coordinating, and managing detailed design drawings and Building Information Models (BIM) for multidisciplinary engineering or architectural projects. The role requires a deep understanding of CAD and BIM software, design standards, and digital collaboration workflows. The Senior Technician supports the project team by ensuring model accuracy, compliance with company and client standards, and efficient digital delivery of design documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Design Production
Prepare and develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D BIM models across disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, or architectural as applicable).Ensure all drawings and models adhere to project, client, and company CAD/BIM standards.Produce coordinated layouts, sections, and details suitable for construction documentation.Conduct clash detection, model audits, and quality checks.Coordination & Collaboration
Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and other technicians to integrate design information.Support BIM coordination meetings, model exchanges, and digital reviews.Communicate effectively with project teams to resolve technical drawing and modeling issues.Standards & Quality
Maintain and implement CAD/BIM templates, libraries, and families in line with company BIM Execution Plans (BEPs).Ensure models and drawings are delivered on time, within scope, and at the required level of detail (LOD).Participate in QA/QC checks and ensure data integrity throughout the project lifecycle.Mentorship & Support
Guide and mentor junior CAD/BIM technicians.Support digital transformation initiatives, automation scripts, and process improvements.Software & Technology
Use and manage software such as:Autodesk AutoCADAutodesk RevitCivil 3D / InfraWorks / Navisworks (if relevant)Bentley MicroStation / OpenBuildings / OpenRoads (as required)Assist in implementing BIM workflows including Common Data Environments (CDEs) such as ProjectWise, BIM 360, or ACC.Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical field.Minimum 6–10 years of experience in CAD and BIM production within an engineering consultancy or construction firm.Proven experience on multidisciplinary or large-scale infrastructure/building projects.In-depth knowledge of international standards (e.g., BS EN ISO 19650, AEC (UK), or project-specific BIM protocols).Strong coordination skills and ability to manage multiple project deliverables.Key Skills
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (and/or Civil 3D / MicroStation as applicable).Strong understanding of BIM processes, standards, and Level of Development (LOD) concepts.Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.Strong organizational and communication skills.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.Knowledge of Dynamo, Python, or other automation tools is a plusAdditional InformationAbout AECOM
