Senior Tax Manager
Job Title: Senior Tax ManagerJob Description The Senior Tax Manager provides comprehensive tax services to individual and business clients, including planning, preparation, review, research, and consulting. This role leads client engagements, manages communications with tax authorities, and ensures timely and accurate compliance with Federal, State, and Local tax requirements. The Senior Tax Manager mentors staff, supports departmental leadership initiatives, and represents the firm at professional and organizational events while actively developing strong client and referral relationships. Responsibilities + Perform tax services for individual and business clients, including tax planning, tax return and report preparation, detailed review, tax research, and consulting. + Handle all communications with tax authorities at the Federal, State, and Local levels, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and accurately. + Interact with client personnel to gather tax return information, clarify requirements, and manage due dates, deadlines, and other compliance matters. + Keep internal team members informed of client timelines, filing obligations, and changes in tax positions or requirements. + Identify opportunities to provide additional services to clients and communicate these opportunities to clients and internal stakeholders. + Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to staff to support their technical development and professional growth. + Communicate regularly with firm leadership to analyze tax issues, discuss client matters, and recommend practical solutions. + Assume leadership responsibilities within the tax department, contributing to process improvements and best practices. + Act as a firm representative at professional and organizational events and actively build a network of referral sources. + Use tax-preparation software and online tax research tools to support accurate and efficient tax compliance and planning. + Ensure work products meet high standards of quality, accuracy, and completeness while meeting challenging client requirements. + Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships through proactive communication and reliable service delivery. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Accounting. + A minimum of 5 years of experience performing tax services in a CPA firm. + Demonstrated experience preparing, reviewing, and consulting on tax returns for individuals and businesses. + Strong knowledge of Federal, State, and Local tax compliance requirements. + Ability to meet challenging client requirements while managing multiple deadlines. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly. + Solid analytical and research skills for resolving complex tax issues. + Motivated, driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. + Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships. + Proficiency in MS Office programs. + Experience using tax-preparation software. + Experience with online tax research tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred. + Experience with Axcess or similar tax-preparation software is a plus. + Background in handling tax authority communications at Federal, State, and Local levels. + Experience representing a firm at professional and organizational events. + Demonstrated ability to identify and develop additional service opportunities for clients. + Prior experience training, mentoring, or supervising tax staff. + Comfort working with both individual and business tax clients across a variety of industries. + Interest in building a professional network and cultivating referral sources. + Eligibility for performance-based bonus potential. Work Environment This is an in-office position with a Monday through Friday schedule. The role operates in a professional office environment that emphasizes collaboration, client service, and continuous learning. You will work closely with colleagues in the tax department and firm leadership, using MS Office, tax-preparation software (including Axcess or similar platforms), and online tax research tools to deliver high-quality work. The setting supports professional attire appropriate for client-facing responsibilities and participation in external professional and organizational events. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Evansville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/hr.
