About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to support critical Defence projects. This role involves providing expert systems engineering services across requirements management, risk, verification and validation, technical documentation, and stakeholder engagement. You will work within the One Defence Capability System and Engineering Management frameworks, contributing to capability outcomes and providing guidance to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
Manage requirements derivation, adherence, and acceptance activities.
Operate within the One Defence Capability System and SPO’s Engineering Management System.
Lead risk management activities including identification, mitigation and reporting.
Undertake Verification and Validation (V&V) activities, including analysis, planning, procedural execution, and reporting.
Generate and support key engineering artefacts such as SEMP, Materiel Certification Plans, Safety Cases, Configuration Item Lists, and other OQE documentation.
Provide professional engineering advice, guidance, and mentorship across the team.
Engage with project stakeholders, customers and capability managers, fostering collaborative relationships.
Lead small multidisciplinary teams to deliver defined work packages.
Support contract negotiations and tender evaluations, including review of contractor submittals.
Contribute to design requirements in the context of engineering change and configuration management.
About You
Degree-qualified Engineer (Electrical, Electronics, Communications, RF, Systems, Mechatronics or Mechanical).
Minimum Technical Proficiency Level 4 (degree plus three years engineering experience).
Demonstrated systems engineering experience within Defence projects, ideally within Joint or Land Domain in the past five years.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Current NV1 security clearance (minimum), with the ability to obtain/maintain NV2.
Desirable
Chartered Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia) with NER registration.
Experience planning, scoping, budgeting and forecasting engineering activities.
Demonstrated experience in developing engineering artefacts such as SEMP, MCP, VCRM, V&V Plans and Reports.
Experience conducting tests, trials and demonstrations in support of certification and acceptance activities.
All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.
