About the Job SUMMARY This senior-level position in the Enterprise Systems Engineering and Operations group within PetSmart’s Service Delivery department focuses on the operational support of PetSmart’s enterprise infrastructure. This includes compute, virtualization, storage, and core systems across corporate data centers, retail stores, and distribution centers (DCs). The role also involves design, engineering, deployment, and maintenance activities related to key enterprise initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum 7–10 years of hands-on experience in a Senior Systems Engineer role. Ability to manage and support compute, virtualization, and storage solutions in a fast-paced enterprise environment spanning data centers, retail stores, and distribution centers. Administration and optimization of compute and storage infrastructure across enterprise data centers, stores, and DC locations. Capacity and performance planning, software upgrades, system migrations, and infrastructure buildouts across all facilities. Executing routine changes, provisioning services, and deployments during business and non-business hours, including store and DC-specific environments. Fault isolation, service recovery, and incident analysis across distributed environments. Development of standards, procedures, and documentation for enterprise-wide infrastructure. Provide advanced-level system engineering support and troubleshooting across corporate, store, and DC systems. Continuously identify and leverage new technologies or methodologies to enhance compute and storage across all locations. Vendor engagement and relationship management for infrastructure solutions used in stores and DCs. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation. Provide technical direction and mentorship for other engineers. TECHNICAL EXECUTION: Deploy, configure, and administer enterprise operating systems (Linux, Windows Server, etc.) across centralized and distributed environments. Manage virtualization infrastructure, including provisioning, monitoring, and performance tuning for corporate, store, and DC workloads. Oversee storage provisioning, replication, and optimization for high availability and data protection across all operational locations. Automate system administration tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Ansible). Implement security best practices across compute, storage, and virtualization platforms. Troubleshoot complex technical issues, provide root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures across store and DC infrastructure. Manage and maintain different compute platforms and similar infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and integration. SUPPORT: Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for production environments, including store and DC systems. Monitor system performance across all locations, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs and system configurations for store and DC compute and storage environments. Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software-related issues across all operational footprints. Continuously seek opportunities to improve system efficiency, stability, and automation across store and DC infrastructures. REQUIRED & PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues across distributed environments. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively collaborating with business and technical teams. Solid understanding of security principles, including patch management, hardening techniques, and access controls. Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, or similar. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and hybrid infrastructure solutions is a plus. Proficiency in system scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or Bash). Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, or Chef). Understanding networking concepts and protocols related to compute, virtualization, and storage environments. Hands-on experience with container platforms such as Kubernetes, GKE, or Docker is a plus. Advanced networking knowledge, including VLANs, virtual distributed switching, and security protocols. Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments, including distributed retail and logistics operations.
