JOB SUMMARY The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for providing in-depth technical review, engineering, administration, analysis, and reporting of all supported system configurations. Primary duties will include resolving all escalated infrastructure-related incidents, processing Requests for Service (RFS) from customers for infrastructure-related changes and escalating to Vendor support as/if needed. This position works closely with technical support as well as other ITG areas such as Network Support. The position consults with lifecycle engineers for designing and high-level administration of hardware and software in a multi-platform environment, technical documentation, project management, engineering, issue resolution, and technical presentations. Specific responsibilities include installation of software products on various hardware platforms, operating system installation and customization where applicable, troubleshoot, coordinate, assist and advise in recovery from component failures of supported systems. The qualified candidate will be relied upon to make good decisions and help mentor personnel in junior positions.  The Senior Systems Engineer designs, implements,monitors, and supports the HCA system and storage infrastructure. As a primary technical resource, the Senior System Engineer is responsible for the set-up and repair of facility system and storage infrastructure, including monitoring and diagnosis of servers and storage performance, and resolution of system-based incidents and requests reported to the service desk, especially complex incidents requiring research and diagnostics. The Senior System Engineer maintains the HCA system and storage environments by adhering to and supporting HCA IT policies and procedures, and recommends process changes that improve the implementation, maintenance, and support of facility-based system equipment. This position assistswith project planning, strategic planning, 24x7 on-call support with other members of IT staff, and to supplement facility-based, on-site support to technical resources as needed. The position will also work closely with our remediation team to deploy and operate remediation and mitigation implementation technologies and automation of IT operations. While this position will require cross-platform knowledge, the candidate should expect a preliminary focus in Windows/VMWare with Linux/Unix being a plus. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES  + Design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance and support of hardware and software to support the system and storage infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to servers, storage, data protection (backup and archive), and distributed services/resources for failures and recommending corrective action. + Creation, implementation, and maintenance of standard operating procedures for equipment installation, configuration support, and system operations which improve service and repeatability. + Participation in governance committees to decide on institutionalizing remediation capabilities to enhance performance or supportability + Maintains frequent interaction with internal and vendor technical staff and project managers to ensure effective delivery of solutions in accordance with project timelines and associated budgets   + Provides business continuity solutions and assists in developing plans for disaster recovery   + Assists with education, training, and mentoring of personnel in technology areas, specifically System Administrators and Associate System Administrators + Participates in the Disaster/Recovery exercises and real-world efforts   + Ability to communicate with various levels and types of end users and management + Participates in the Disaster/Recovery exercises and real-world efforts.   + Provides 24x7 on-call support based on IT staff rotation and carries a phone as warranted, to assist with troubleshooting, coordination, escalation, and resolution of system or storage-based incidents, equipment failures, etc. + Adheres to and supports HCA IT&S standards, policies, and procedures. + Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and employee information. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE + 7+ years’ experience with server and storage technologies + 5+ years’ experience in deploying technically complex infrastructure computing solutions  + In depth knowledge of supported operating systems, utilities, vendor products, applicable programming languages, diagnostic techniques, database management systems, benchmarking methodologies, applicable communications protocols, applicable hardware configurations, and use of statistical and analytical tools for system monitoring and evaluation.  + Working knowledge of Windows server 2019/2022, VMware ESX, Nutanix AHV + Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure such as Nutanix NX platform + Experience with securing Windows operating system, especially for PCI compliance + Experience with Storage provisioning – EMC VMAX/VNX/NetApp + Platform integration with SAN storage, server clustering, security perimeter networking, alerting/monitoring integration, and business continuity  + Experience with middleware such as WebSphere, JBOSS, HTTP, NetDelivery, etc  + Experience with Commvault backup and recovery management  + Experience with OS environment running one or more databases including SQL, Oracle, DB2 desirable. + Ability to work with DBAs and understand their requirements is necessary. + Experience with SCCM, package development and implementation, patching + Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential. + Solid understanding and experience with operating system concepts and practical implementation of those fundamentals in a large-scale production environment. + Working knowledge and experience with key ITIL processes is required.   + A solid understanding of performance metrics and tools is highly desirable, to include understanding of CPU utilization levels, CPU and disk queuing, I/O response times, and other key performance indicators and their impact on performance.   + Network fundamentals and performance principles, including a firm understanding of TCP/IP protocols. + Working knowledge of scripting and GPO creation and management EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE + Bachelor’s degree in information systems is preferred.  + Microsoft Server certificates (such as Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate) and Virtualization certificates (such as VCP VMWare Certified Professional and NCP Nutanix Certified Professional) are preferred. OTHER/SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS  + Capable of working effectively under a high pressure and demanding work environment. + Capable of working effectively in a diverse, on-site and virtual team-oriented environment + Must be a self-starter and work effectively with minimal supervision + Must be customer-oriented and recognize the importance of customer service and meeting service level commitments + Must be committed to quality and timeliness of assigned deliverables and milestones.  + Must be able to drive to assigned sites to complete work
