Senior System Design Engineer
Job Title: Senior System Design Engineer Compensation: $69 - $115 hourly Contractor Work Model: Remote System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated Senior System Design Engineer to support fluid systems and supplier integration activities for advanced nuclear projects. This role reports to the System Design Manager and focuses on coordinating engineering activities between System One engineers and system suppliers, promoting collaborative design development, and ensuring hardware meets design intent and project requirements. Responsibilities + Lead the design of nuclear and industrial components and systems from early requirements through final detailed design. + Oversee vendors developing mechanical systems and component designs for advanced reactor programs. + Coordinate reviews of thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and other technical analyses performed by contributing engineering teams; integrate results into overall plant design. + Integrate as-designed hardware into system-level engineering deliverables. + Identify and apply appropriate industry design codes and standards (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.). + Provide technical direction to engineering staff on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards. + Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and engineering standards to complex mechanical designs. + Support planning activities, ensuring schedule compliance for system design tasks and their integration into the overall plant delivery framework. + Interface with design teams to create and manage drawing packages—including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings. + Lead technical oversight of supplier projects; collaborate with Contract Administrators and Supplier Project Engineers to ensure deliverables meet scope, quality, and schedule. + Establish and maintain system requirements and engineering design specification documents. + Propose, initiate, and oversee system qualification and testing programs as needed. + Prepare engineering design packages for systems and equipment, including coordination of calculations, design reports, drawings, and engineering specifications. Key Qualifications and Skills + B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution. + 10+ years of direct mechanical or fluid systems engineering experience. + Demonstrated supplier/contractor coordination and project management experience. + Experience with high-temperature systems, multi-discipline integration, fluid systems, or fluid system component design preferred. + Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in fluid/structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and interpretation of engineering drawings. + Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation abilities. + High attention to detail and a strong commitment to technical excellence. + Self-starter with proven ability to lead design teams with minimal direction. + Ability to balance competing technical objectives and resolve design conflicts. + Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001. + Strong integrity, openness, teamwork orientation, and professional accountability. + Final job title and starting level will be determined based on candidate qualifications.
