Job Description
The Senior Sustainability Manager leads the sustainability strategy for Global Channel Development by translating evolving regulations and enterprise and partnership commitments into clear, actionable plans. This role shapes global sustainability roadmaps with key partners, mobilizes cross-functional teams, and drives high-impact workstreams, including critical regulatory projects, to ensure compliance, protect license to operate, and advance public and partnership sustainability commitments.
Responsibilities
Lead the development of the Global Channel Development (GCD) 2030 sustainability roadmap across six global partnerships, ensuring alignment with enterprise and partnership sustainability commitments.Proactively identify gaps, trade-offs, and opportunities within the sustainability roadmap and recommend practical, data-driven solutions.Serve as the central sustainability lead for GCD, aligning priorities, direction, and execution with cross-functional teams including Enterprise Sustainability, Legal, Supply Chain, packaging engineering, brand, and regional teams.Mobilize and orchestrate cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact sustainability programs and projects on time and within scope.Manage key risks, dependencies, and issues across sustainability initiatives, ensuring clear communication and timely escalation when needed.Translate evolving global regulations, such as extended producer responsibility (EPR) and environmental claims regulations, into clear, actionable plans that ensure compliance, reduce risk, and manage cost.Lead GCD strategy and workstreams within the US EPR Taskforce, shaping the GCD approach in partnership with enterprise stakeholders and external advisors.Design and drive compliant, scalable regulatory solutions that reflect GCD business needs and avoid duplication of efforts while protecting license to operate.Act as a subject matter expert on sustainability topics, advising stakeholders and leadership on regulatory trends, risks, and opportunities.Advise brand and product owners on sustainability considerations and embed sustainability criteria into innovation processes and stage gate reviews.Evaluate and score stage gate projects against sustainability criteria to ensure sustainability is integrated into product and packaging innovation.Support or manage external partnerships and multi-stakeholder initiatives related to sustainability, including international partnerships.Communicate complex sustainability and regulatory topics clearly to diverse audiences, providing concise updates, insights, and recommendations.Use data and analysis to connect insights across teams and inform strategic decisions related to sustainability and regulatory compliance.Leverage project and program management methodologies to plan, track, and deliver multiple sustainability initiatives simultaneously.Collaborate closely with partners to align on goals, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ensure shared accountability for sustainability outcomes.Continuously monitor the changing sustainability regulatory landscape and update internal stakeholders on implications for GCD operations.Contribute to sustainability reporting and documentation as needed to support internal governance and external commitments.Essential Skills
Minimum of 7+ years of experience leading sustainability initiatives, managing regulations, or driving complex strategy programs, ideally within consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, or supply chain environments.Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.Experience working across cross-functional teams such as Sustainability, Legal, Supply Chain, Brand, and packaging engineering to deliver programs and projects.Strong program and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, track milestones, and navigate ambiguity.Proven ability to lead projects from initiation through completion, including planning, execution, and measurement.Solid understanding of sustainability topics and the changing regulatory landscape, including packaging, extended producer responsibility (EPR), and environmental and green claims.Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory and sustainability requirements into practical business actions and implementation plans.Experience supporting or managing external partnerships or multi-stakeholder sustainability initiatives.Strong communication skills with the ability to create clarity, influence partners, and effectively share updates and recommendations with diverse stakeholders.Ability to analyze information, connect insights across teams, and contribute to practical, data-driven sustainability solutions.Ability to grow and manage international partnerships related to sustainability initiatives.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction tracking.Experience using Smartsheet and the ability to work within enterprise-level tools and systems.Background in project management and sustainability, including sustainable energy, sustainability reporting, and broader sustainability practices.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master’s degree in Sustainability or a related field is preferred.Certifications related to life cycle assessment (LCA), supply chain decarbonization, or packaging innovation are highly desirable.Advanced Excel skills and an analytical Background, including comfort with complex data sets and scenario analysis.Experience leading sustainability or regulatory projects from start to finish in a global or multi-regional context.Experience in or familiarity with Global Channel Development, CPG, retail, or foodservice channels is beneficial.Demonstrated ability to operate in a dynamic, flexible environment and adapt to evolving business and regulatory needs.Work Environment
The role operates within a welcoming and collaborative team culture that values partnership, openness, and shared problem-solving. The team is global in scope, with a core group of four direct team members based in Seattle and additional colleagues located across various regions worldwide. This position offers a dynamic and flexible work environment, with moderate to high daily interaction levels and a high-touch, partnership-focused style of collaboration. The work model is hybrid, with an expectation of working on-site four days per week. The role involves frequent use of digital collaboration tools, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), Smartsheet, and other enterprise-level systems to manage projects, track progress, and communicate across global time zones.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85.00 - $90.00/hr.
