Senior Structural Engineer
Be part of HDR’s growing Transport Structures team in Melbourne, delivering bridge and transport structure design across Australia with opportunities to contribute to projects overseas. We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer who is chartered and registered as a Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) and is ready to lead technical delivery on a diverse range of challenging projects.
The Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will apply your strong knowledge of structural analysis and bridge design to deliver for our clients. This hands-on role will see you design complex bridges and transport structures with limited supervision, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams.
You will be responsible for structural design, inspections, technical reports, and proposal preparation; all in pursuit of strategically growing HDR’s Victorian business and expanding your own career through challenging and exciting projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead technical delivery of bridge and transport structure projects, applying both standard and advanced engineering techniquesDevelop design solutions, prepare drawings, calculations, and specifications for a variety of structural forms including reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steelPerform structural planning, analysis, and design for transport infrastructure projectsCollaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure project successSupervise and mentor junior engineers, fostering their technical growthManage mid-size projects Contribute to cross-functional initiatives within HDR’s Bridges and Structures Business ClassDrive safety and quality leadership aligned with HDR’s “Drive to Zero” initiativeRepresenting HDR at industry technical seminars and promoting a positive, inclusive culture aligned with HDR valuesAbout You
Typically, a minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in structural engineering, focusing on bridgesBachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related disciplineChartered member of Engineers Australia and Registered Professional Engineer Victoria (RPEV)Experience in project management, including commercial, administrative, and technical aspects (highly regarded). Proven ability to successfully lead small project teams Proficient in structural analysis and design software such as Midas Civil, SpaceGass, Strand 7, SBD, Excel, and an interest in parametric modellingAbility to manage multiple tasks efficiently and drive innovation in design and deliverySelf-motivated with a growth mindset and passion for continuous learningCommitment to active participation in HDR’s employee-owned cultureWhy Join Us?
