This position is responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including account reconciliation, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) regulations. Serves as a resource to campus faculty and staff on university accounting policies and procedures. Is detail oriented and maintains accurate electronic and paper records. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive or all-inclusive description of duties and responsibilities. The Senior Staff Accountant is a full-time, unclassified, exempt, 12 month position. Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications: + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field. LSUS values skills, experience and expertise. Preferred Qualifications: + Previous university experience or experience with a state agency employer. + Experience with Workday enterprise software and good project management and organizational skills. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Proficient in account reconciliation, including bank reconciliations. + Solid understanding of finance, accounting principles, and cost control procedures. + Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables and complex functions/formulas. + Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and government regulations. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. + High level of accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to work independently. + Self-starter with strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels and the ability to keep leadership informed of progress and issues. Job Duties and Other Information Position Duties: + Reconcile bank and credit card statements regularly, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner + Provide financial data and reports to Cost Center Managers and Principal Investigators as needed + Assist with year-end financial close processes and reporting requirements + Monitor actual monthly expenditures against approved budgets to identify variances + Conduct technical accounting research and apply appropriate guidance + Prepare and post manual journal entries and payroll accounting adjustments + Act as a liaison between LSUS and the LSU Office of Sponsored Program Accounting + Collaborate with Accounting Services staff to evaluate, enhance, and maintain effective accounting systems and procedures + Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned Physical and Environmental Demands Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
